According to the civ wiki it was patched in, along with lighter skin, to match Cyrus' skin tone, and conform more closely to contempory descriptions.

Why not whip bank in Mansa and slow down GP production in ED? It's not like we can use those in 10 turns...

Why can't we use them? If we're in the final war for the game when would a golden age be more decisive then that? I know it's not efficient to "waste" a golden age by whipping and drafting away your population but given the scale of our empire the bonus hammers will not go to waste whole we continue to build military everywhere. And were going to be in this war for a long time, we need all the units we can get because we're going to not only have to fend these guys of, to get peace we're going to have to drive them out and either counter invade one at a time or somehow inflict enough damage to make them want to take peace. That will also require a lot of units. So if a golden age helps us build/whip more units sooner I don't see why we'd want to delay it at all. Unless the reason is you're saying whipping the bank in MM gets us to Rifling sooner so that that helps us more than getting the earlier golden age. Not sure how to quantify that if that is the argument.

I'm thinking about picking up some of the lowest-hanging fruits in infrastructure, ie those markets and courthouses that can be finished very quickly with whip overflow from the catapults - basically every gpt we can gain some way soon will impact our Rifling ETA. After all a courthouse will be worth around 100g over 14t.
I see the following candidates for this:
Seven Tribes: market at 127/150, worth at least 8gpt at 100%
Forbidden Fruit: courthouse at 76/120, worth 6gpt - can use whip overflow or chop
Let It Snow: courthouse at 94/120, worth 6gpt
I also think we should consider 2-pop whipping the Bank in MM, probably T172. Forbidden Fruit can pick up the gold mine, and each turn with the bank is worth 20gpt from the shrine only. That's another 100g or more that we can use towards Rifling.
I also checked, and we currently need 3 turns at 90% science to finish Replaceable Parts, and our beaker production will actually increase in the coming turns as lots of our cities are due to grow onto mature cottages during the coming turns. Ie, I think it's quite likely that we can finish Rifling in 6t of research (we're at 960 raw beakers right now, adjusted to 1180 with known tech bonus and prerequisites, so 6.5t at our current rate).
So speeding up Rifling to T180 should be quite easy to do, the question is if we can get it on T179.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width

We do need units, but now that CFC is going to be coming with cannons, we'll need rifles to end the war. If CFC executes well, they'll get Starfall, and the question will be whether they get Eastern Dealers as well.
So if we can trade, say, 2-3 cats for a turn on rifling, it might be worth it.

We badly need units. And frankly that t181 calculation is optimistic because our population is going in the wrong direction. I think we have to accept the fact that we are going to fight this war with a tech disadvantage.

I support this...holding firm on the GA plan is folly.

We've already accepted that fact. Why would the GA be bad if we haven't gotten Rifling yet by that time? Or even if we have.
