[PLAYER THREAD] Brian's Awesome Thread of Awesomeness

Stuff happening. I was trying to get the warrior round the mountains to at least head back over land we hadn't seen, but I'm not used to playing on quick - I thought we had another couple of turns before the environment started trying to brutally slaughter us. Nope - damn great catbird. We're in forest, so there's some hope.

In other news, we have contact with a neighbour. Auro finished a scout move on the rice tile last turn. We'll have our new warrior out before he can get near the cap, but I'm really hoping our starting warrior survives and can make it home.

Scout's in a better position to cover the capital. In terms of settling, Auro's appearance kind of dictates forward settling to the south, so I'm thinking, shadow his scout if it goes north, go south otherwise.

Yeah, there's nothing pulling early settling north. Pigs, gold maybe the rice as a stretch all lie in a direction that should give some strategic depth towards Auro.

I'll leave oppo analysis to you, and in a small game everyone will be neighbours, so I guess meeting Auro first is no better or worse than anyone else. But he's got wins behined him ...

Our warrior lives! The monster had something better to do than attack us and has wandered out-of-sight. I'm going to retrace steps rather than risk 1/3 (as of the end of this turn) of the army just yet.

That means the scout needs to check out the SE - and there are elephants and plains cows down there. It's possible that the scout's location might actually make a viable city site, but it's not a great one. Will see if the new warrior from the cap can shadow Auro and prepare to check out the west safely while the original warrior moves to cover the capital.

A glance at graphs shows that Auro has been focusing on production, whereas we've been on food. Immediate settler?

If you're bringing the warrior back, that would be a good idea. If you're going to do a bit more scouting with both units, build another warrior first. EitB can be very punishing with the barbs.

Will see what the next turn brings, but would like to get a settler started next turn if possible. I think we have enough knowledge to plan the first city, and it's not going to be a long journey. But yeah, any unit outside borders has to be considered at risk.

We have a turn again. Finished the capital garrison, started on a settler - 10t with the pigs just being pastured. Worker starts pasturing horses.

My plan would be to bring the scouting warrior back round, take a quick look at the fogged tiles east of the capital then move them to the "commerce city" site to the south that shares wheat with the capital (a safe push. That city then needs a reliquary up ASAP to expand to the gold.

The signs show my initial, very rough thoughts about city sites. The ivory city is definitely questionable - the marked location is highly defensive but very cramped and food poor. It may also be worth leaving a site free on the coast to exploit he lake tiles? The scout will hopefully be able to check out the area, but there's not a lot of moves into cover, and we know that the animals are out there.

Second expansion could either be the production city or a direct push south to the rice to secure more land? By that time we should know more, even with my cautious scouting.

Note to self - check that capital will actually have a sensible amount of food .without the wheat / how many tiles will need farming.

I think Ivory city would be better 1East on the forest, but not quite as defensible. However'it would be much easier to counterattack from. Apart from that, they look good unless we see something in the North West to move or split that city.

Very definitely a better location in peacetime.

Silence over last couple of turns is because I'm a bit busy and nothing much has happened. There is also a bear, but the scout saw it first and is steering clear.

Lets hope he's smarter than the average bear and wanders off to chomp on some non-Svartalfar units which are not ours.
