I would have appreciated some more input. But they had been posted for two days with basically only MJ saying anything.

I'm not saying change them. I'm simply making a prediction that after the game the players may want to take a look at the base map and reconsider if it was even worth trying to balance anything ie should have just played a random map.
Essentially, they got what they asked for. Whether they like that or not is no ones fault here. And to be clear: part of the problem is with CTH but given people want to play with the remaining balancing issues that's their choice.
I do wonder if anyone with more technical skills than me should take a look at some of the scripts and try to make them generate more balanced starts (without going full Torusland).
Man, I wish we'd caught the signs of fake capitals. I caught some (jungle, tundra, desert) but not peaks or freshwater.

I absolutely support the idea of the map scripts being reviewed and updated to improve balance. Just start with totestra and whatever was used for PB71 because that way it's simple: just focus on the resource generation and then transfer the approach to the other scripts such as B&S which also require land form considerations.
I'm not saying this should be done, but if those issues still irk you enough there is nothing stopping you from making the minor alterations so you guys are happy. The lurkers don't matter and in all circumstances it has to be an improvement in the starts so it's not like the players can moan about getting +2 health at the capital or one extra usable tile. All deadlines are arbitrary etc.
Hubabl mistake #1 not picking Khmer. Its an above average civ in general and techs are fine. I might be tempted to throw back leaders as well if I didn't want to go ind with so many players.
Briefly doing thoughts as I'm editing. Halfway through although I'll probably look at again and add land to islands / move another island specifically if anyone looks short / balance tool says is short. To try to keep aesthetics I am using existing nearby islands whenever possible.
- Moving resources in cases where strategics were placed directly next to other resources for aesthetic reasons. - Making sure everyone has two early happy one of which is a luxury metal resources. I DID NOT balance the luxury metal resources. I resisted my impulses as then I would also feel the need to balance the quantity (I can be easily persuaded to do so). I did make any that were desert or tundra into plains tiles if someone only had 1. I left any remaining desert ect or whatever they were. Quote:Gavagai is Huayana Capac of [reroll]

Quote:Gavagai is Huayana Capac of England Which means we need three civs. Rolling them gives us: Quote:Superdeath is Louis XIV of Babylon I'll wait for Hubab to confirm before posting this. Edit: happy for anyone else to do this also the second Hubab confirms. Full list:

I got done adding luxury resources / giving strategics and other resources a quick glance last night. Going to figure out how to run Novices balancing tool tonight and give it another look over in general.
Q what would you think of my deleting some of those ice ball islands and making some smaller islands in areas of ocean currently lacking. I'm specifically glaring at the ice mass in the NE we cut through that has 0 food but still has plenty of room for corp cities in the late game / plenty of silver for mining inc.
Is there anything wrong with those cities existing? If you want to raise some land, that's fine, but I'd be wary of sinking too much. I think it's an interesting area.
BTW, I don't think Silver generates on plains, so maybe consider that balancing. Maybe consider a light touch look at second city locations? Not balancing, but making sure they're not terrible.
