I got a lot of crap about my second city in pb19 - I think the only thing it claimed was a horse tile. But I was expansive and able to use the hammers to pump workers non stop.

For your third city I would strongly recommend going north for one of the spots with multiple food. I'm even tempted to say you should pink dot that super city in the far west, but you'd need an archer or axe to protect that. Unless you haven't met anyone, then you'd just need enough to protect from barbarians.

Edit: hopefully you scout finds more food in the north. This is a green map but a little low on food resources

Your comment about food resources is true. I cannot complain. The land is lush and sweet and full of honey. It's just that honey is not a food tile and I want food tiles to supercharge the development where possible.

I have taken your comments on board and I agree. I have adapted my thinking with the workers accordingly. We will settle city 3 up to the north-east and damn the consequences. An impi will be sent by way of guard utilising the upgrade mechanic once the copper is connected. Our cities are naturally connected via the river so I have simply to road the southern copper tile and the warrior in the build order should upgrade to an impi and we can give a productivity boost with a mine+copper to finish him.

We have met DTG (with his stupid war declaration earlier. He WILL die for that) who came from the south and ipecac who came from the west with a scout and disappeared again. No sign of life from the east as yet. An aggressive impi would give anyone pause though. A pause long enough to build an axe, which should be plenty sufficient time.

On track to found the pink dot gold site with an impi escort and will found the gems after. Will try to get a more detailed turn report including pictures up over the long weekend. I think we are in a fairly strong position so far though.

Ok, a much delayed update. This game is going poorly. Regrettably, this is due to a combination of three blunders on my part.

First up was a mistake on my part in terms of adjusting to normal speed. It has been a long time since I have played on this speed and I became aware on my simulations that tech speed was radically different. However, I did not really pay this sufficient heed and it has caught me out. I am trying to adjust to this and the situation has been drastically improved by the crutch of hooking up gold and gems but I am behind technologically for sure.

Second error, although I suppose this was the first, was my choices in the snake pick. Victoria or Darius were better picks and I suspect I will regret this decision more as time goes on. I have tried to leverage this pick as best I can and have been hyper aggressive as a result. A few well placed aggressive impis have caused a fair bit of havoc as best I can tell. All of my neighbours are afraid of me, which is ironic as I am the lowest power in the game. That being said, my border cities are appropriately defended. I'm a bit like an egg currently. Crack through the first layer and it's going to get messy. Forcing my neighbours to appropriately reinforce their new cities has slowed them down and allowed me to catch up a bit as I was initially quite far behind.

Lastly, the reason I was far behind was a piece of game mechanical knowledge that I misunderstood. I moved my settler under an enemies warrior believing that if he declared war, his movement would be exhausted by moving away. Clearly this was not the case. The real sting to this is that there was no need for this move. It was greedy and trying to plant a city one turn earlier. My escort arrived on the scene the next turn and did get revenge, but the loss of a settler hurt me. Strangely, despite that loss, I am still up there with the leaders on city count. This mistake cost me a lot though as it forced all my plans into disarray. Two workers wasted numerous turns as they had pre-chopped and pre-roaded to the city and then found themselves with nothing to do. Moreover, I had a plan to found buddhism in the city which was delayed as there was no city there to found it in. I did eventually succeed with this plan but it was poor compensation.

Those demos don't read 'behind' to me. Looks like you have plenty of game left. smile

Thank you for your encouragement. I still think I can win this, but it is harder than it should be. I am behind on score and that is due to being behind the others on technologies researched. I have utilised the impi's to claw some ground back, but that could have repercussions later on as I doubt I am any players best friend!

Alhazard shows his might at the border. If this is a rush, it's a weird one, and if it's just protecting the worker, a bit of an overkill. Anyway, I put some hammers into an axe, just in case there's something more in the fog.

I scouted DTGs city in the south and marked the troops. Best to keep an eye out for the safety of the new southern settlement.

I assume your plan here is oracle currency? Techpath priesthood->math seems to indicate that. I'll position workers so that oracle could be chopped and start roading west to enable settling into that direction. I'm a bit worried about waiting for math though.

How's it going, did my choices seem good to you? Do you have plans for oracle?

Thank you so much once again for covering my games. I truly appreciate it. Your choices seem well considered and strong. I have not changed any of them in fact. Yes, you were correct in assuming that I intended to oracle currency, although I have been wondering if perhaps this is too ambitious. With normal speed and my ineptitude, our research rate is rather poor and I have fears of losing Oracle by a turn if we wait to finish Mathematics.

Saw your post in the general thread, so I just read through your thread here. I think I can take up your game if you want me to. And if Pindicator is still ded-lurking you, that would be more incentive for me to do so. smile

Pindicator is unlikely to be dedicated lurker anymore, I have not seen him about in sometime and he gave up his civ in one of his PBEMs due to a lack of time I believe. I would gladly let you take over the civilization though. Perhaps I can send you the latest save (unplayed) and you can ask any questions you may have?
