It's difficult to tell which boxes to copy and paste, and what text will break the formatting.
Click the "paper" icon at the very end of the editor to show the source of any comment.

You can just for you! Here's where it is in your settings:
@Brick: the multiquote button doesn't work the way I'm used to, as an option to pull the selected posts together with whatever next reply you make. I can work around it, with some practice.

That's what I was referring to with the 'view source' button. Rightmost formatting button puts it back the way it used to be for composing your post, and you can toggle it instead of always having to hit 'preview post'
Still having issues with the "quote this post" button though, see screencap:
Perhaps I'm missing something here? Unlike the other buttons, it doesn't show a link in the corner when mousing-over, but instead some Javascript text.
I guess I'm not sure what your prior workflow was, since the workflow I'm used to works fine. And hitting the multiquote button, and then hitting the "New Reply" button also works as expected.

Hmm, when I try this, it fails for the last post in a thread, but works for earlier posts.
Well it should show javascript, it's executing an action on the current page instead of sending you to a new one. I would guess that number is the post ID too.
Works on all posts even the last post for me....... So now you have different functionality on the same actions as me and therefore I have no idea.
Huh, I tried to replicate my multiquote selection problem and it worked instead of failing again. Maybe it's because I switched the 'view source' option you pointed out, or maybe I was just confused before.

This might be it- I just switched to "view source" as well.
