Yeah barb raids not spawning horses is helpful, fighting horse archers would've been much trickier

Barbs at London defeated for now, but the scouts got away, so there's a raid coming. They did pillage the horse pasture, that's why the builder is on that tile, I repaired it this turn, before going down to farm the rice

At Sheffield, there's still a slinger (currently in the fog), but I need to heal before dealing with it

I'm getting Early Empire eureka next turn, and decided to research it before Craftsmanship, so that I can slot it colonisation and unlock Magnus. Craftsmanship would come in before I finish working on the pantheon, so I wouldn't be able to swap out of God-king. Culture is going painfully slowly though; ideally I would get the culture from plantations pantheon, but not counting on it, think my pantheon timing will be rather late. Thinking about a monument in Sheffield after the trader. Although I do need a builder there too. So many things I need....

Stable for now

Northern warriors are on the way to deal with the camp. The newly built warrior in the southewest is keeping lookout for the raid, and the last one is healing

I switched off Irrigation for now to ensure Irrigation eureka doesn't complete the tech and waste the overflow. Writing - Currency are the next techs; once I place the first commercial hubs, I will want BW for iron and the extra yields, as well as to unlock jungle chopping. After that, Archery and HBR to keep up in military (an attack on Hong Kong is a possibility as well), and Masonry for stone chopping and possibly Pyramids. Not sure on the order yet; I also need to be careful not to research too much to keep the district costs low

Got a forest fire in Sheffield. A very annoying disaster I can do nothing about

Raid towards London is still not incoming. Wonder if there's someone else in that direction barbs are attacking instead, I expected them to show up by now

a fire on a forrest not improved (and not need to work) is a blessing, you should pray to have it extend and burn all the way to the western banana smile

Truth, as long as it doesn't destroy an improvement or kill a pop it's basically a free builder charge. :D

hmmm I didn't realise there were positives

I guess the positives are similar to a volcano eruption?

Fire didn't spread further. Northern barb camp down, and nothing is coming out of the western one

With the northern barb camp dealt with, I can finally get back to exploring. Found Cahokia

Obviously, by now Pindicator claimed the first contact envoy there as well. But this is a city state I can see fighting for. Their suzerain bonus is Great Cahokia tile improvement, which is just +3 gold, but the first one built in a city also gives it an amenity, and an amenity in each city at a cost of a builder charge sounds like a pretty big bonus to me

Meanwhile I'm starting a siege on the western camp, and thinking if maybe I should settle the city west of London before going for the jungle banana spot. This city can be settled sooner, is a bit easier to get started if I buy the horse tile, plus I will get the era score from killing the barb camp. Longterm I think the banana spot is better, but waiting for the next settler for it shouldn't hurt too much

After this settler, I will get a builder in London, get the second rice farmed, deer camped, and chop the forest W of the city into another settler with colonisation and possibly Magnus bonus (too lazy to calculate is I will have time to establish Magnus). After that Magnus will go into Sheffield, where I'm thinking of chopping 2 forests into Pyramids. But that's a matter for about 20 turns down the line, I need to research Currency and Masonry first

A big turn. Writing completes and I continue with Currency research. More importantly, faith ticks to 25 and I can unlock my pantheon. Both culture from plantations and culture from pastures are available, and I hesitate

Culture from pastures would be of more immediate benefit, since all my current cities have horses, and the planned 4th city has a sheep. So it would be of more immediate benefit. On ther other hand, eventually I will have more plantations than pastures, and they're generally also high value tiles to work. Maybe I would prefer to work pastures at size 1, but from size 2 on I would work plantations as well

Ultimately I decided that the period during which I won't get any benefits from culture from plantations pantheon is short enough that it is the one I'd rather pick. I will plantation the banana in Sheffield next turn, which will be worked right away; Sheffield also is getting the silk tile in a few turns, and the third city will start working a plantation at size 2. At that point, plantations pantheon becomes as good as pastures, and only gets better from there

This decided, I settle Birmingham, and then kill the barb camp

All this, plus meeting Greenline a few turns ago (still haven't seen his unit which made contact, but think it came from the east), put me at era score needed to avoid a dark age (for better or worse - as I said, classical era dark age into medieval era heroic would've been fine too)

The screenshot shows London builder coming out in 2 turns, but I actually reshuffled the tiles to delay it. Instead, I will buy a builder in Birmingham in 2 turns for 230g, and then will finish the London one

I also take note of Greenline's relatively high power, although mine will be 80 once the warriors heal (or higher? does it take promos into account?), so nothing too scary just yet
