Hi,
Dr.Disaster Wrote:For a toned down version get the German localization. Jay Wilson already confirmed that I'll have to play the kid friendly release Argh. Looks like I have to pay 15⬠more again for the original US version (you do know that most online stores sell US originals in their "above 18" section if you send in a copy of your passport, right?). Although I do this also because it gets mighty confusing if you talk about spell, skill and monster names in English online forums when you only have a German version at home...

Having just read a large interview with D3 Lead Designer Jay Wilson left me somewhere between sadness and horror.
Just one example, if you don't want to read thru it: there will be no weapon switch in D3. This LoD feature each and every D1 and D2 Classic player was most grateful for will be eliminated because:
- people used it in an exploitive way
- most people used it by accident and did not know how to switch back
ARGH!
I'm really worried Blizzard did choose the wrong people to develop a Diablo game.

Isn't the POINT of weapon-switch to use it in an exploitive way?
We'll have to see the game engine to see if they actually mean there is *no* weapon-switch, or if they mean there is no *supported* weapon-switch.
Heh.

By exploitive, I think Wilson means the weapon switch slots are mostly used for pre-buffing fire-and-forget skills, which wasn't the intent. Actual switching between two different combat weapons is less common. The only such characters I've played are hybrid amazons and paladins with a kit for smiting. I trust there'll be a workable method to handle those types.

Couldn't the issue of buffing and changing weapons be dealt with by having your skills duration and other stats depending on the skill level you have at any given time (i.e. if you lose a skill level when switching gear the skill you are running should go down to that level in case of stats).

I don't buy it when they talk about cutting certain game elements because they are concerned with development time. I think I last heard that excuse when they were talking about restrictions on class specific weapons, ie, no huge axe for sorcy, no staff for baba or some such. Not when it comes from Bliz who is famous for "it's ready when it's ready" approach and its financial status. "We don't want to devote more resources to the game." sounds about right. We don't know how DIII works but I highly doubt these so called exploits cannot be curbed with tweaks if Bliz is willing.

Maybe they are also concerned with MFing, like barbs switching to a pair of Ali Babas before bosses die. I dunno. Sometimes devs are a bunch of
In Hellgate London, there was a boss (among couple of others) people can farm for mid lvl items but it would require team efforts. The place was popular and practically the only thing that brought people together in PuGs. I mean, they promoted the game is about items, and they knew farming in one of the main activities that keeps people playing. Alas, in the end after a couple of fixes and after people found workarounds, they have finally fix the farming problem - at the expense of killing the last reason to PuG with an already dwindling player base

Well, I've just been watching the trailer for the revealed fifth class. Let's see how close I was...
WarBlade Wrote:I'm leaning towards "Ranger." Not necessarily a dedicated archer, but something like LOTR's Aragorn or Diablo's Warrior with a jack of all trades feel that would translate into the game as a light weapons specialist. Bow or weapon/shield combos... Maybe even knife throwing.
We'll see though.
Diablo III - Demon Hunter
Pretty close. This fifth character takes a step towards the Diablo II Assassin from what I had envisioned, but it's otherwise very close what I thought I'd see.

Watching that does make me wonder if anyone at Blizzard has actually seen a crossbow used. It's physically impossible to dual-wield a pair of crossbows, because there would be no way to turn the crank after firing. And yeah, I know it's a fantasy game and all, but the whole thing is still rather silly. Do those bolts just magically appear and ready themselves to fire?
Any chance Blizz gives us release date in the near future?

Along these lines, in explaining how they developed the skill system in the way they did is this comment from the lead content designer at a Blizz
