Turn 34 Played.

The Lizard man moved to 1SE of the capital. I moved the CIII Warrior and the worker on to the rice and set about farming. I decided to work to plains/forest/hills though (starve for a turn) and pop another warrior so there are now 2x C1 warriors in the capital - 1 fully fortified. I checked the difficulty level in game (emperor) before deciding and I didn't want to die due to a bad RNG roll.

Scouting warrior moved 1W revealing nothing.

Turn 35 played. The Lizardman didn't attack, just fortified I guess. Is it trying to choke me? lol

So I have 2x CI Warriors (1 fully fortified, the other at 5%) in the capital, and a CIII Warrior guarding the worker on the rice with 1T left to go on the farm.

Moved the scouting warrior 1SW and found a Gorilla? I think just to his immediate S. I'm in a forest at 2.5/3 health with CI/Shock so if the Gorilla hits me (str 4) it's about 50/50 I think.

Athlete - in FFH barbs often pause 1t before attacking. It MAY of course have decided not to attack, but if the unit does decide to attack there is always a good chance there will be a single turn's delay.

Thanks Sunrise!

Lizardman suicided against one of my 2 CI Warriors in the capital, Farm complete, size 3 (4 in 3 more turns) and warrior in 3. Then onto a Settler

Scouting Warrior redlined by Gorilla, 10 turns to heal.

Just to make sure you got that. Bob used his world spell, River of Blood or something, that adds two pop to each of his cities(capital), and loses two pop for each of his rivals cities. I'm now stuck with a size 1 capital.

While playing around with FfH civis, there is an interesting combo. The civics unlocked by calendar, and code of laws allow agrarianism(+1 food for farm, -1 hammer for farm, and one other thing(LURKER HELP!)), and Aristocracy(-1 food for farm, +2 commerce for farm, and 40% less distance penalty), allowing for +1 food, -1 hammer, +2 commerce farms. That makes grassland farm 3/0/3(oasis, or financial FP cottage) monsters, plains 2/0/3(grassland financial cottage), desert/tundra 1/0/3.

After discovering this, I think have two options. Use these super-farms which require CoL(Ancient Chants/Education), and Calendar, use cottages, or keep at the path of straight to RoK. I think the best move would to be grabbing Ancient Chants, Education, CoL, and Calendar in that order enabiling super-farms to be used.

Something of note: When I first discovered this super farms, the farms were +2 food, -1 hammer, +2 commerce. Bug? How does the food go from +1 to +2?

If we do go this way, Mysticism, as well as God King civic will not be used, as Aristocracy is in the same column.

Tech Path: Ancient Chants-Education-Calendar-CoL.

Athlete/lurkers, what do you think?

Hey Cull,

Good to have you back (just in time)! I probably wasn't going to be able to play this one till Monday or Tuesday!

The only thing I wanted to point out is there's a delicious city site that nets the corn and gems. I believe I had it pegged for 2N of the Gems. Some of that area is still covered in fog though so if you can scout it out that would probably be better. The stuff to our immediate E is pretty fogged as well and I think there's some good stuff there, though I'm inclined to believe that we can get that a bit later if we can seal off our W and S. Anyways I can't give more than that until I can look at the game next week.

All the best!

The +2 food may have happened if you researched other techs. Think it is Sanitation that gives all farms +1 food... rather funky stuff!
Reply

The +2 food is probably because farming gives +1 food, and the civic gives an additional +1 food/farm.

So ... river grass farms would be 4/0/3 tiles, etc.

The plan is to get agrarianism and aristocracy, as sanitation as an ideal goal, probably after RoK though. Agrarianism and aristocracy together just give an additonal +2 commerce to gold. Sanitation, as McClure mentioned gives +1 food to farms. Therefore, a grass farm would be 4/0/3, plains 3/0/3, no-food tiles 2/0/3. Simply amazing!
