Additionally a team is already in place to publicly share some information about the game so the larger lurker community can still have a window into it.

I was afraid that, without access to the real forums, I would have no idea what on earth was going on in RB land.

I just want to mention again one of Sunrise's points, that even if no leaks or cheats happen, the simple presence of the possibility with a large number of fresh lurkers can be unsettling enough to slow or derail discussion. We've seen that in players' PBEM/Pitboss threads on occasion, when players won't even post about certain plans ahead of time for fear of leaking spoilers.

And again, we will have some news feed for lurkers, and we'll certainly open up the forum for all once the game is complete. Thanks for the understanding.

There is a reason that the bolded section isn't relevant.

Posters aren't lurkers. They are not globally lurking every team in the game.

They are no different to anyone else on the team, they are players exactly the same as anyone else.

Players don't post in their spoiler threads because they think their team mates will leak, do they?

Greetings Team RB,

I noticed that fresh RB members were not accepted to the private forum, but I thought I should still give a try.

I have been following these threads for a year, read through all the Pitboss games so far and of course tons of other stuff. Apart from learning a lot, following games and reading reports has been highly entertaining. Needless to say that cheering for RB team in an exceptionally competitive demogame would be a great pleasure for me.

Therefore, I would be extremely grateful if you could reconsider the lurking policy. I would love to join the team either as a silent dead lurker or (if preferred) even contribute to the discussion by stating occasionally my own two cents.
