I have edited terrain and placed players on the map. However, I am really skeptical that anyone will be happy with the result of scrambling the resource and forest locations. Something that might not be intuitively clear is that the normal BTS map generator does not place resources randomly - it places them such that they are not next to any other resources. If you take the same number of resources that are appropriate for a given map with the constraint that no two resources are adjacent, and you rearrange them randomly, you are going to get some dense clumps and you are going to get completely empty swathes. Because of this, I don't think the instructions I am to follow will produce a very good map.
Can you re randomize them but with the same constraint of never having resources next to each other?
I think what Krill basically wants is that "same basic terrain shape as PB1, but not so much the same as that we should study the PB1 map to see what we get." Whether the resource distribution is actually random or hand placed or whatever, I don't think anyone really cares.
I think you should use your judgement as to make map fair and balanced. We all trust you.
Thanks for the heads up Seven. Sucks that's the case. I feel that a handcrafted edit is too much to ask of you though (and has nothing to do with impatience)
Would any of the players be unhappy to use the following settings? Torusworld Huge map (only affects costs) 100 tiles wide 60 tiles tall Inland Oceans 6-10% peaks (map maker choice) Scattered improvements (map maker choice) For players: These settings produce a map with a similar number of land tiles to the PB1 map and a roughly similar map lay out, however the bodies of water tend to be slightly smaller.
Nah. But don't let me wreck things for anyone.
Actually, if that's the case, though, I'd also be happy to hand-scatter the resources on PB1, that's, like, an hour or two for me.
