[SPOILER] Smegbeth heads to the terrace for a prawn cocktail and beer

Thoth you lunatic. Now I know why you picked Portugal.

Changing all the values around with the pier meant that the Portuguese UB, Dutch UB and the Breakwater all have screwed up values for hammer output from water tiles. There are supposed to give 1 less hammer.

Oh, fuck, this is going to be fun.

So, Red Dwarf theme. I'm not going to rename units except for workers but I'm going to stick with the normal numerical series naming scheme because it's easier to keep track of them that way. Cities though...episode names?

Played through a few more sims. Without know the placement of food resources of or the lay of the land, it's not particularly useful, but there are a few strategic concerns that I'm going to have. My aim is to have a library completed in the capital by T50. It would be lovely if the capital was size 5 or 6 or whatever and could then run 4 specialists to push out a 5 turn GS, but that isn't going to happen unless I find 2 happy resources within 5, maybe 6 tiles of the capital.

I also want to have 2 settlers out by around T40; this date can slip a bit so long as the library isn't delayed (or rather so long as the GS is not delayed). This is because I just can't afford to fall behind on development, but after these two settlers then I could potentially not get another settler from the capital; size 1 granaries and minimal worker investment (or working overlapped cottages) makes slaving settlers much more attractive. The worse quality the land I have in terms of happy resources, the more I'm probably going to want to overlap onto the cottages.

I can share the sheep between the capital and second city with no real difficulty: settling 777 of the settler position shares only two tiles, the sheep and what will be a cottage tile. This would delay the second settler but only by 2 turns, maybe only a single turn. But I'd want to chop the plains forest after working it for a few turns to get the granary. I don't know what I'd want to do with this city, not enough information at this juncture.

I'm fairly sure that I'm going to be lacking in units. Building the granary and then 1 pop whipping it generates a lot of overflow, but if I use that for Quechua then timing on a settler is very poor, can't get a second worker unless delaying the settler until after T35 and don't have anything to do with it, but worker>settler may have some difficulty with keeping both cities improved, specifically getting a road in place for a trade route, chopping for size 1 granary, and improving new food.

Tech costs aren't bad, but you still can't get everything immediately. I tried a fast growth to size 3 approach, but whipping the granary at size 2>1 with avoid growth and it works reasonably well, overflowing few hammers to get the Quechua on the turn it grows to size 2 eot T22 with 12 food in the box. Right now I think that is my preferred approach, and I've experimented with just going Agri>Pottery>hunting>Archery to enable the granary and slaving asap, and then stacking 2 whip unhappy in the capital. It's generally working quite well, because the second whip unhappy wears off right around the time the capital keeps on returning to size 4. Gets both settlers out quickly, second settler eot T41 with 5 pop in 2 cities and 2 granaries, 2 improved food resources and 2 cottages as an example of what is possible.

tl;dr Same old, same old, go worker first and use those turns to scout and to build a coherent strategy.

So there are silver and furs, and the city site 777 of the capital is legit in terms of access to new happiness resources. There seems to be a coastline to the south and it's not possible to split off a food resource from the capital for the silver. Scout should probably move 74 next turn onto the hill and then circle either clockwise or anticlockwise due to the low number of warriors I'll have.
