Epic Two - Eastern Gem Dealers - Info Thread

I'll play... hopefully I have the time to actually get to it.

Quote:5 pts - First player to control all Gems sources in the world AND also have all six rival civs as Customers.

Is there already a specified total number of gems on the map, or will we have to look for them all?

I'm going to try this Epic. I'm a newb so hopefully things won't go to bad.

Even if they do go badly, it may help to play it out and report. Every shortcoming is an opportunity to learn something and improve, but only if you analyze what happened. Seeing choices others made can speed this process. Some of our strongest players now started out struggling early on with Civ3 events.

Monarch is pretty rough on new players, and a Monarch variant can be worse. However, an Archipelago map at least ensures that the AI would have a harder time wiping you out. Of course, if they are buying your Gems, perhaps you'll have them all dancing to your tune. smile

Expect lots of whining in my pre-game analysis about how this game seems specifically designed to showcase my weaknesses. thumbsup

In fact, I think I'm going to play a practice game first on a random map with the same setup, so I don't completely embarass myself.

I just upgraded to 1.61 and loaded a very slow game with stops in between due to memory limits, all of a sudden it seems much faster thumbsup
thus, I am trying epic 2 as well

1 6 1 - brings us fun ! smile wink The game ran fine before the patch, but now it's even better. Great work, you guys at Firaxis ! The result was worth the delay for me !

Unfortunately I'm not gonna play Epic 2 - my limited Civ IV time is already eaten up by SG and MP gaming... rant cry

Come not to me again: but say to Athens,
Timon hath made his everlasting mansion
Upon the beached verge of the salt flood;
Who once a day with his embossed froth
The turbulent surge shall cover: thither come,
And let my grave-stone be your oracle.
Lips, let sour words go by and language end:
What is amiss plague and infection mend!
Graves only be men's works and death their gain!
Sun, hide thy beams! Timon hath done his reign.

I have two questions about the "capital".

Am I allowed to build another Palace? I'm supposing this to be "yes".

If I do so, do I get the full 8-point credit for building the Globe Theater in the new capital if it also has gems? This I'm unsure about.

Same here, I havent played a archipelago map yet. I tried one today and I was seriously pathetic, I really need to smooth out my strategy before playing the Epic. wink

A question:

What are we supposed to do if another civ demands Gems from us? Can we choose to accept or must we decline as we are not selling them for a profit?

I've played Archipelago once and did really bad. All those ships and logistics are a hassle. So I don't expect to do well on this one. smile
