Mr. Cairo PB 52 [Spoilers]

You said "I log in this turn and I somehow didn't complete Rifling, and I was teching Literature, which I had queued up after Rifling." Do I understand you correct, that when you logged in, Literature was set as a tech and not Rifling? Are there any beakers into Literature right now?

I don't know what caused this and I can't immediately say if this is a bug or not. Some general things that happened and could have caused some economic damage:
  • Me loosing two cities means there are two cities less for trade routes, because the cities are now under occupation.
  • Some lost trade deals causing unhappiness?
  • Something that AT did after you finished your turn?
The interesting thing is that now at 100% you are making 732 beakers per turn. On your T203 screen you are also scheduled to finish Rifling with just 80% research ~ 585 beakers per turn. That would mean that you did loose at least 146 beakers per turn between T203 and T205.

I'll log in and have a look, but I don't know what could have caused me to lose a bunch of beakers. My happiness situation got better between turns, and all of my trade routes are ICTR (either to my own islands, or from my islands to mainly Pindicators cities)

OK, I've figured it out. So I did lose some commerce when OH went to Mercantilism. But what actually must have happened is I did accidentally swap techs, but to Aesthetics. The reason I look closer to finishing Rifling is from the overflow of Aesthetics. So it wasn't a bug, it was a mis-click.

Now, others' this game have gotten reloads for mis-clicks, so I would still like one, considering how important that tech at that time was. But I'll leave that to the judgement of the lurkers.

Based on your screenshot, that was a buttload of muskets and planning - I think this should warrant a reload.

I'm beginning to thing there might be a bug, because when I just logged in now to pause, my tech was set to Compass, and I know I didn't choose that tech at any point today.

So, a couple quick comments.

1) I don't quite agree with the characterization of a misclick, because those are things you notice immediately. This would require multiple clicks and not noticing the result. That said, I definitely think due to the sheer impact, a reload may still have been pretty reasonable, except...

2) The re-rolling of RNG due to combat elsewhere would have been very negatively impactful, or at least have the potential to be very swingy. We generally feel it's unfair to effectively punish other players for a mistake they didn't make. I know this sucks a lot, and I'm really sorry about that.

I'm sort of skeptical this could be a bug. I would definitely urge you to take screenshots at login/logout though. Even though I know you don't post lots of pictures, I think it's helpful to just make a habit of pressing print screen frequently because you never know when you might wish you had one. Can you try taking screenshots exactly at login/logout for awhile? That way if you suspect it's a bug, you can document it and validate it (the turn timer in the screenshots will match up with PBSpy logs).

Yeah, I think I'm just going to avoid any uncertainty by just never queuing up techs. But I will start taking more screenshots, it's just annoying to have to separate them out from all the ones I'm taking for the EitB Adventure.

Anyway, at least now I have an excuse for losing.

I'm always super paranoid about doing the overflow into tech upgrade trick in Pitboss for this reason exactly. I try to login late in the turn cycle on those turns just to be sure everything is still lined up, and I also try to have a sizable commerce buffer. I never queue techs though (except temporarily when eyeballing costs).

So, after being thrown off kilter a bit it's time to get back at it properly in this game.

First of all, I started a Golden Age and swapped to these civics:

I did some adding and found that Serfdom was a lot better than Caste, even with Merc. Only one of my cities doesn't have a specialist slot and all but a few have Libraries (the other's have Courthouses).

So, after swapping civics and sorting out the free specialist here's the demos:

Disappointing that I was only even with MJMD when he's not in a Golden Age, but what can I do.

Well, I can turn some mines into Windmills, which right now are much better improvements:

On to the war, next turn I'm moving into AT's land. I had planned to do this quite some time ago, but ten Muskets are a lot worse than 10 Rifles. So that has given AT more time to rebuild, but he hasn't rebuilt to where he was before his failed attempt to retake a city:

So if he has rebuilt all those Cats, he can't have also built more/better hitters. If I had more Rifles I'd probably try something like moving in a few mini-stacks of Rifles and Trebs (which I might do after seeing a bit more of what he has waiting for me at his cap), but for now the plan is to simply move my stack in and have a big ol' fight outside his capital. Drill 3 Rifles and Muskets will do a pretty good job of keeping my stack safe from collateral, I hope.

Here's my stack:

At the end of the GA I'll be swapping into Representation, Nationhood, Slaver, keeping Merc, and Theocracy. For the duration of the GA, any units I build will be down 2 xp, but that's ok, I'll survive. I could even keep them in the queue and start other units, so that after the GA I get an explosion of units with more xp. I'm going to go and do that right now as a matter of fact. Obviously it's only with it in cities that actually have Taoism, which not all of them do.

Here's the obligatory pictures of my Cap and my Moai city in a GA:
