I’ll be sending out the role PMs Somewhere between 3-5 hours from now, so if anyone has more questions to ask before they receive those, now is the time.
Werewolf Returns

I have played werewolf in person, but never in a forum. Would it be possible for people mark roles in some kind of way, so that a newbie like me knows they are talking about a role in specific.

I'm going to be honest, we're going to forget in our typical posts. There are going to be a LOT of posts and there's enough formatting to keep track of already. The setup (usually the opening post(s)) may outline what the powers are or at least what the possible powers are (a link to a list of powers would be helpful - we're all rusty).
This video is recommended viewing for new players before this game.
Not only is it funny, but there is definitely a whole established thing around the concept of people making “Wine in Front of Me”, or WIFOM, arguments. https://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=WIFOM (August 31st, 2020, 08:58)Cyneheard Wrote:(August 31st, 2020, 08:53)Charriu Wrote: I have played werewolf in person, but never in a forum. There is already a link to powers on the “tips” post in the locked game thread.
Ok, fair enough and very understandable. I will try to keep up with roles I don't know as best as I can.

You limit diplo to certain things, but then you go into great lengths to go over that limit anyway. Every game where communication is advantageous but limited has this result, of player behavior adapting to send the maximum information over the limited channel. This happens in cooperative tabletop boardgames like Bridge and Hanabi, where you can only communicate through specific actions that irrevocably advance the game state. There's a whole set of conventions around artificial bids and hints that don't follow any in-game logic but are the best approach to pack more communication into the limited channel. Happens in Diplomacy, where you give fake invalid orders like "support your unit halfway across the map" to indicate peace or alliance. Happens in Civ as you said. Even happens in Codenames; the channel is very limited, but we do have conventions around using the number to interact with +1s from prior clues. Player behavior will always adapt. If you can't say X, players will figure out a sayable Y and interpret it as meaning X. It's a significant difference from the version I played where you didn't so you usually got 2 people claiming to be cops and ended up lynching them both to be on the safe side. Wait, in your version you didn't get role reveals or you didn't get roles and alignment?! ![]() |
