So you would mod out ability to pop techs? In general I would classify the above as problem with huts. At the point you've agreed to play in a game with them you have to accept this type of garbage is possible. I think there is a reason that playing with them fell out of favor, but for some reason we are re-experimenting with /shrug. Joy of being a general lurker is I can just

There is no issue with randomness. We use randomly generated maps, either without alteration, or as the basis to build something to meet our needs. We have randomness in combat. We have events, resource pop, WLTKD, GP generation, combat, barb generation. We have different tolerance of randomness depending on the game.
The issue is we don't want randomnesss in certain locations. Popping BW is too much. Popping a map isn't. The problem isn't the hut, it's the outcomes.
I think it is the amount of randomness / risk tolerance people have. There is a reason I vote against barbs every game I'm in. I'm OK if it passes the vote, but I would rather not. There is a reason that after realizing events and huts were on for this game I chose to cancel my sign up. They knew this was possible. Everyone who is playing this game chose to sign up knowing events and huts were on. I have opinions of such people, but it was there choice.
For those lurkers who don't want to go to German forum here is where Xist moved. He got gems (and copper 2E although he doesn't know that yet), but he lost a strong food to actually produce settlers with...... If his PB72 slow expansion is any indication he may be in trouble with only 1 food.
Without going into details which would be spoilery for ongoing games, I will say that it feels like map and neighbour draw are significantly more impactful than any kind of randomness added by huts/events
I mean you aren't wrong. Neighbor luck / balance is always one of if not the biggest factors. But huts/events just add more. Again, how much randomness do you want. Commodore as a neighbor is already verging on bad luck, but its part of multiplayer to end up next to people. Commodore getting BW for free is much worse, but again everyone knew that was a possibility, so /shrug. Its like investing in the stock market. Are you a fund investor, individual stocks, or cryptobro.
Well perhaps you get Commodore as a neighbour and then you pop BW. I mean, I play Living World EitB where one player can get a Prophet at t30 from an event so I'm perhaps not the best to test against.

Quote:TarkeelTurn 3 (3880 BC) So one of the things I liked about this map was that while yes EVENTUALLY the ends can have isolated back lines in order to get that they have to have 3 neighbors for a while. IE they have to be warring with 1 while still having 2 others that can interfere. Meanwhile the 'skinny' top part of the isthmus people only have to worry about 1 neighbor on either side and they can have a nice PB70 thickness empire. In general I liked the thickness of the main island at pretty much all points. The part of the island where people have 3 neighbors is pretty wide on both ends. Is it perfectly balanced of course not, but its the best looking map by miles. |
