I tend to think it's fairer not to speak up. Darrell got your advice in response to a direct question. Novice hasn't asked. If he does ask, then answer him.

In this particular case I don't think it would be fair to tell novice. If you would have explained it to Darrell in his thread after he asked for it I think it would be needed to be told to novice as well to stay fair. But Darrell simply uses an internet-source (which happens to be an old post by you). Thats something novice can use as well if he bothers to search for it.
