I see it in the DLL code as from Emperor Fool's unofficial bugfix patch. I'm not quite sure how to parse it, but it looks like there is a flag "is choosing free tech" and if that flag isn't set it gives you this message.

If it's any help in solving the problem, I believe the "Oracle bug/exploit" is caused by clicking both the right and left mouse buttons when choosing the free tech. Doing so will give you a free tech and also opens the civpedia, and you can choose another tech when you close the civpedia.

Sareln,

Are you able to do the temporary fix of giving us the techs we earned, per T-Hawk's suggestion in the XVIII tech thread? Or are you just focused on fixing the code so it doesn't happen in future?

Ask T-Hawk, I can't address it this week.

I hadn't heard of that bug until recently. I believe the EmperorFool code was made to fix an exploit where you could save and reload the turn where you receive the free tech to get multiple free techs. Perhaps it wasn't coded with PBEM in mind?

Perhaps, though it doesn't look like it's touching anything that would be different for PBEM. I suppose I'll have to compile a debug_dll and step through it to find out for sure.

I just tried to replicate this issue and was unable to do so. I either opened the Civopedia or chose my free tech. Never both at the same time.

It must require some sort of macro or specially programmed mouse button to click both buttons at once.

Hmm. I had reloaded the turn after my team built the Tower of Divnation, mid-way through the turn (meant to use "Maelstrom", accidentally used Haste since the buttons were right next to each other). I had never heard of any sort of reload bug / exploit until today.

But could my reload have messed up the free techs for both my team and Mardoc? Or maybe he did a reload also? I've never seen that error before in SP.

I don't generally save the game partially through a turn; pretty much only do that if I need to get Thoth's input. Which hasn't applied much to 18 anyway, since we've been living on borrowed time for a hundred turns. Anyway, you guys are describing the symptom that's the reason for the code. We're describing the symptom that's the result of the code, right?

I mean, I know I didn't try to pull a cheat, and the system claims I did anyway. That's the bug.

Right, to be clear, I'm not accusing you of doing anything untoward w/ regards to reloading saves. But I'm wonder if at least my reload was the cause of the issue, since nobody seems sure at the moment what actually triggers the bug.
