[SPOILERS] Dip4 Turkish Delight: scooter dies first

Yeah, I got kinda screwed there. TT insisted that I should order Bul-Gre and Smy-Eas because Rowain was going to order Gre-Aeg, that way I could walk into Greece easily. I'm not sure who did the lying, but I'm not surprised. I should have just stabbed TT with Arm-Sev and Con-Bla like I considered doing when he told me he was going to do Rum-Bud and Bla-Rum with MJW's help.

Anyway, trying to think of how I could use the result of this turn to influence Rowain. Not sure I can really get anywhere.

So are we assuming here TT and MJW are trying to play both rowain and us against eachother and team up together.

I know they have played in a civ pbem against each other (when I was playing too) so they may be used to working together diplomatically (the game ended before anythign really took off)

I would think flt eas-aeg, flt con-bla, arm bul-gre, arm smy-con

Don't expect any gains, but it moves your stuff to the front and gives you a bit more freedom to support going forward. Just the risk of losing bul if somebody is supported into it.

So to recap, basically TT came to me last phase claiming he got MJW to turn. I was super skeptical, but I sent in my orders with this disclaimer to Gaspar:

Quote:Gaspar, I know this looks like weed, but I had a chat with TT that I'm too lazy to post in forum. Involves some weird anti-Rowain moves that MJW supposedly signed off on and I don't really believe. Anyway, this either puts us in awesome position or it's completely disastrous. And to me, either winning or dying quickly both sound preferable than a stalemate where I have to continue playing and talking to MJW and Rowain, so hence my decision to trust someone that is completely not worth trusting ever.

The gist of it is that Twinkletoes insisted to me that Rowain was going to order Gre-Aeg, and by ordering Smy-Eas and Bul-Gre (instead of the more useful Smy-Aeg), I would be able to walk into Greece untouched. This all sounded way too good to be true, but I was tired of the stalemate business, so I went with it. Of course, Rowain didn't order Gre-Aeg, and now my fleet is weirdly out of place in Eas.

To make matters worse, I came REALLY close to ordering F Con into Black Sea and Arm-Sev, but at the last minute I decided against it. I really should have just stabbed Twinkletoes then and there, but I've missed my opportunity. And of course, Twinkletoes (Ru) was probably lying to me. Here's what we've exchanged since then.

scooter Wrote:Twinkletoes,

Sooooo, Rowain didn't order Gre-Aeg like you said he would, which has kinda screwed me a tad. What happened there?

TT Wrote:Hey scooter,

Honestly, I guessed wrong and/or MJW misled me. I thought that Rowain would feel safe in his alliance with MJW (he seems to be the only one that could) and would try and take the seas surrounding you, expecting you to defend BUL and then have them in position to take BUL later. MJW also hinted that Rowain was planning that.

I'm not sure what the best moves for this next turn are yet, so if you have any strategic ideas then I'm happy to consider them. I'd still much rather work with you than anyone else.

TT

In summary, "yeah oops sorry about that. You're clearly screwed and are no longer useful to me, but sure yeah I still want to work with you." So yep, he's lying. Unfortunately I'm not really in a position to screw him to make him pay - he's going to build F Sev this winter I'm sure, so I don't really know what I can even do here.

Any comments on your thought process with these moves?

Yeah, sure. Rowain flat-out lied to me last phase even though he was about to die, so screw him. No surprises.

TT is going to attack me because he has to. MJW has done nothing but lie to me all game, and from what I've been told he has some sort of weird personal grudge against me which is why part of why he's done nothing but lie to me from the start.

So that means I will die and I cannot win or even survive, so I'm going to do the one thing I threatened to MJW that I would do - throw my centers to Twinkletoes.

Well, sort of. Not so blatantly in a borderline-collusion way, but in reality I can defend against MJW or I can defend against TT. I can't do both. So I'm going to defend against MJW. It's his own fault for refusing to talk to me - in Diplomacy you can never stop talking to people, and MJW has done that, so I'd like to see him punished for poor play. That greatly outweighs any misgivings over TT stabbing me - my only annoyance there is that I foolishly passed up my chance to stab him.

I'm not going to go out of my way to tell Twinkletoes that I'm doing this, but if someone wants to use my 4 units, I'm more than willing to let them do it, but so far nobody is even trying lol. I hope someone from the western theater wins, I'm not too impressed by anyone's play in the eastern theater, including myself. Anyway, don't feel sorry for MJW if TT gets all my centers, he certainly could have gotten to this strong of a position without pissing me off so much that my dying wish is that he does not win.

Hasn't he a grudge against everybody?

Minor update.

Just kinda submitting orders right now. MJW sent me a few messages several days ago, and I didn't bother replying. What's the point when nothing he says is true? TT has tried to "coordinate" with me a few times. I basically just told him "just tell me what you want me to order and I'll do it" and then he never got back to me lol. So I'm just submitting things.

I've talked with Cyneheard a few times since his interest in conquering Italy aligns with my interest in taking down the person I blame most for my poor game, so he's about the only person I've talked with, and even that is pretty brief.

Anyway, both my fleets live for another year which means I get minimum 2 more rounds to mess with MJW. Potentially another year since Cyneheard may deem me keeping 1 fleet as more valuable than him capturing Tunis. So we'll see.

In terms of the bigger picture, sure looks like an EF romp to me. TT will remain relevant since he'll take my centers with ease, but an EFR draw would not surprise me. I don't think dtay and Cyneheard will stab each other, but who knows. Those two have played the best game so far no doubt.

Man, sorry I signed up to dedlurk you - it appears as soon as I did MJW went crazy with bloodlust.

No idea why he's so hung up on me.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
