Stuff About Teams We're Playing Against

Fourth Victims - Dreylin w/Elum, OT4E

No idea what a Dreylin is, but it made me think of Frank Drebin. I'm old.

Playing as:
Gandhi of the Khmer (Spiritual, Philosophical, Ballista Elephant, Baray)

Seems apt for a civ game. Especially one featuring mackoti. Right, mackoti? Kappa

Known Knowns:

Dreylin is one of those dudes that sort of just mentally jumble together from RBCivs early MP days. There's like a half-dozen of those guys, who basically looked pretty good back then but it was mostly because 1. We weren't that good at this in those days and 2. Any game with diplo cannot really be compared to those without. I don't mean that as a knock on Dreylin, just more that those old games didn't really tell us anything. I guess he's come back since then and basically from what I've been told my previous assessment (competent, prone to some occasional errors, not great, not terrible) seems to be accurate.

Gandhi of Khmer is an interesting pick. A lot of people really valued Spiritual. I suspect those are the people who really value Slavery. Maybe we're undervaluing it, I don't know. Philosophical means he can bang out an early engineer and rush Taj (most likely use.) Khmer gives Baray, which is a free 1f in every city. The elephants are obviously extinct. So it goes.

Known Unknowns:

How much influence will his dedlurkers have? OT4E is someone who has a reputation from the same era as my impressions of Dreylin but at a bare minimum he's proven to be a skilled rules lawyer. He's also a fairly competent warmonger from what I recall. I have no idea who Elum is or whose sockpuppet he is Kappa but my money is on mackoti. Kappa How good is PHI really? Is he the guy who tries to use corps?

Cropped and downsized. Had to lower JPEG quality to 97% in GIMP to get under the size limit.

Given Bricks proper use of Kappa, I felt like I owe a report, even if we were waiting for input from mackoti before reporting. I guess he needs pictures...

t250 - The Return of The Mack

That's pretty much the turn. Capital gets settled at Orange Square next turn. Northern settler follows Red Line to Yellow Arrow, where we expect to settle 1N since it will be riverside and hence enable a Dike. Western explorer follows Pink Line to scout the west before circling up north. Its likely that the 4th city will end up being for the deer. We considered making that one of the 3 initial sites but that really doesn't work in an advanced start where that city is unlikely to ever be able to steal pigs from the capital. Instead the southern settler will likely settle the Blue Pentagon next turn, depending on what the eastern explorer finds after following it's own Pink Line to the iron hill. That city will suck until it gets a Dike, but it was the best of a weak lot.

Not highlighted are the workers, who built a road 1E of the future capital. That's interesting because we simmed out about 20t over the course of an hour to determine that road would be more useful than one on the tile 1N of the capital or 2/3 of a road on the tile 1W of the capital. Noble's back, baby! Pogchamp

Oh yeah, we also revolted civics.

We skipped the religion column because we figured we'll want to build at least one monastery and there are basically no other benefits in the early game to having religion. Not only would we have had to eat a 2nd turn of revolt for that, but we'd also have to eat another turn to adopt our state religion. We'll just wait til we can fire a GA to do it once we're ready to swap to our forever civics (Caste and Theo, possibly Vassalage.)

Interesting to note that CHDZ and Scooollla both founded a city this turn. I wonder if they chose SIP with the same sort of start as us. Maybe mack will let us know later.

We also decided on a naming scheme, though you can't tell from here since we didn't settle this turn. We're going with Famous Cheaters. Think Lance Armstrong, Bernie Madoff, Lord Parkin... We're more than open to suggestions from the lurkers, particularly those that don't have to do with sport, since those are obvious and plentiful.

Questions, comments, concerns?

I started listing politicians for names but that got overly obvious and plentiful too.

You can pretty much see the whole turn in that screenshot. We settled the first two cities, Lance Armstrong and Richard Nixon at the previously discussed tiles. Exploration in the north led us to probably decide to settle 1NW of the settler's current position for city #3, which will get a ton of forests.

You can see the cap is building culture for a turn to get the pigs in borders before swapping to a worker which we'll whip at the first time of asking. Hopefully you eagle eyed global lurkers will be checking everyone's turn reports post-culture builds to make sure there are no hammers in their follow-up builds and if you see it, pointing it out and insisting on a reload to make sure nobody is abusing the culture bug. You'll do that, won't you? I'd just ask mackoti, since he's the only one I'm sure is following all the threads closely but since he's been voted Most Likely To Abuse The Culture Bug I don't think he's a reliable resource for that. Kappa

Nixon is not building culture since the important tiles are in borders already and getting that worker out is the earlier priority. We will probably slip a culture build in after the worker since the city does get another choppable forest in second ring. The game wanted us to settle on the iron and we briefly considered it but an grass hill iron mine will be a valuable tile in getting a settler out, so we passed on it.

Here are the demographics.

Most interestingly here is an opponent clearly still in revolt. So at least one non-Spiritual opponent either adopted a religious civic and hence ate the 2nd turn of revolt or forgot to revolt on the first turn. I'm virtually certain that the religious column has nothing worth grabbing that's worth a 2nd turn of revolt so I'd guess it was a mistake, but I can't be certain as this is my first ever Industrial game.

Next turn the explorers will move in the directions indicated by the lines on the first screenshot, while the workers will move to the pigs and start pasturing. Nixon will whip that worker as it will have 11 hammers in the box and we will settle the 3rd city, which I'm debating between Sepp Blatter and Pete Rose as names. Please feel free to chime in. Kappa
