Commodore has never played like a sane person. It was purely wishful thinking.

There's plenty of strategic analysis of your game in the lurker thread, don't worry... rolleye

Like I said, win chances maximization. If we go total war on Commodore at the beginning, we cannot win. All I care about is win or lose, I'm not interested in playing for 3rd or whatever.

So let's say you have two choices:

Choice 1: Total war on Commodore right away. We cannot win, as it turns into a fight to the death for him instantly (and likely lasts severals eras), but it gives us the upper hand against him.

Choice 2: Cover our borders and try to play normally. If Commodore goes total war on us, we're done. But if he doesn't, we've increased our chances of victory over the 0% that Choice 1 gave us.

Door #2 makes perfect sense there IMO, even if it doesn't work out.

I disagree that choice #1 is 0% chance. We're alive in choice #1. Choice #2 is certain death.

By the way, if people actually picked choice #1, there might be a slightly increased chance that Commodore won't do this stupid shit every game. Probably won't happen, but if he's not getting punished for it then he's even less likely to change.

Scooter... i don't know if we have the luxury but we may want to think about whipping a galley. It's bugging me that there is 10xp unaccounted for from that GG. So why wouldn't he try the same trick down south?

Edit: i mean in In N Out

FWIW, i did advocate total war at the start, but i didn't push it because i wanted to believe Commodore would act like he wanted to do more than conquer one neighbor and then flounder about the rest of the game (see PB5).

Noble, i remember you being the one pushing hardest to settle all the open contested spots.

Bah, i didn't mean for this to turn to a finger pointing amongst ourselves; we're all pissed off enough as it is. I just wanted some constructive input from outside sources or the solace that we were just dealt a shit hand from the start and the rng and us taking our lumps is all we could hope to do.

I disagree with certain. If I would have known Commodore had elephants much sooner then yeah, I think we could have determined it was inevitable. However, we didn't know this for quite a long time.

And yeah, this sums up my feelings too. I was hoping he would have learned from his PB5 mistakes where he drew a really solid leader/civ and a weak southern neighbor and turned it into a serious case of the also-rans. Unless he kills us very soon in this game, he's never catching Serdoa.

Yeah this crossed my mind, but what's he going to accomplish around south exactly? In-N-Out is on a hill and defended by an archer, and has been pumping units for us. It wouldn't go well for him. I do sort of want a galley out of there, but that's more because I kind of want to get ourselves an island fortress out there somewhere to make sure it takes him longer to kill us. wink

But I'm not that worried about In-N-Out for those reasons. Am I wrong?

You know what they say about taking the same inputs and putting them into the same algorithm and expecting different output... wink

Counterpoint: Lewwyn. He had the same reputation as Commodore for the longest time until he got better at knowing when aggression was a good or bad idea.

No, actually, Lewwyn is not really like that. I have spoken to Lewwyn a lot. He's aggressive, but not stupid. Also, the Lewwyn algorithm has capacity for learning while the Commodore algorithm does not.
