Ninja edit: Also, our current micro plan calls for a double-whipped spear for the 'Henge, so we aren't totally bereft. Not as good as an early axe for exploring, but it's something to shove in the face of a wandering barb.

As a disclaimer I'm not nearly as good a Civ player as you guys. Still, imagine the exact situation you would have had when Oracle comes online, only now in addition to the copper units you are building already, you have another 4 axes (140 hammers) fanning out in all directions to scout and fog-bust. You can't deny the second situation has some advantages worth considering, e.g. you will probably find horses and additional contacts much earlier, and have your longer term decisions influenced by better map awareness than the other teams.

I actually fell your idea has some merit, especially in a full diplo game. Instinct tells me it's probably not worth it, but they're definitely situations were I could see the knowledge, not to mention the military, valuable.

Its good to meet your immediate neighbors but TT is off so early diplo doesn't involve finding a trading blocks and isn't as big of a deal. You're not going to be isolated, you'll just be late to the table on settling deals but settling cities is a relatively slow process so you don't risk losing that much. If they were going to pink dot you, chances are they would pink dot you either way.

Hey guys, the turn has rolled over and we have some good news. I'll give you a quick preliminary turn report before heading off to bed.

We got a free religious spread of Hinduism into Focal Point! [Image: biggrin.gif] No need to worry about obelisks or other cultural stuff in there. If we could get a free spread to the capital as well, it will be worth converting just for the extra happy cap.

Also, can someone double check that this is the turn that we double-whip the spear in Mansa's Muse? I'm 95% certain, but I want to make certain before slaving away our two pop. Stonehenge remains unbuilt, and our ETA is only two more turns.

We also have our fourth worker done out of the capital.

Here are the beginning of turn Demos for kjn's use. These will all go down as we whip our pop, but still looking mighty nice right now.

T53: whip spear -> 64/35 + 5 production - 34 overflow

T54: Stonehenge 22/120; chops come in + 60; 34 overflow; 5 production

Sum 121/120

So yes, this is the turn the whip must come, otherwise we put the chop hammers into the spear instead.

(Those smileys are terrible....)

This also fits with the last sim posted.

I don't view that it changes the plan as a problem, not at this stage. We haven't invested heavily (as in planning and simming) into the Monarchy path yet. It just means... we changes the plan.

Is the wonder worth spending four forest chops and a double-whip at Focal Point (16 worker turns and 2 pop)? Probably, if for denial value if nothing else. Let's see what happens with Stonehenge first and go from there.

I think this discussion needs some strategic thought.

Tech Monarchy conventionally means we will invest heavily into buffing our capital. It is the capital-first school of Civ development. We may or may not choose to Oracle MC here.

If we go for Oracling Currency, we take a risk that we will lose the wonder, but if we win the race we'd we very well set for continued horizontal expansion.

Looked more closely at the microplan...I think we should either move 2NW with the worker out of AO now, or finish roading the corn completely before moving onto the forested hill. The former lets us road the forested hill sooner while there are still no enemy units visible, and the latter lets us wait until a warrior arrives to provide some semblance of cover.

1) Tech PH + Writing + Math, for 600 base beakers. Finish off Oracle and grab Currency, netting a strong tech worth 600 base beakers.
I would vote for this plan. I think that currency helps us more than metal casting, and if someone else beats us to the oracle it's not that big a deal. And it will only delay monarchy by, what, 12 turns compared to getting monarchy first? That should be fine.

I like this plan too, it has the biggest upside. If we succeed we're on the path to victory.

And yes, if we're on T53, whip the spear.
I have to run.

This probably doesn't need to be said but stop the chops of all three workers. Sending them into the Henge if it falls to someone else would be a waste.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

When I logged in Sullla had done the first chop-turns, and the workers stood ready to perform the second chop-turn.

I think that was more aimed towards the next turn. After the Workers have been commanded to out the second turn into chopping, their actions should be cancelled. That way, if another team finishes SH on turn 54 our Workers won't finish chopping before we can assign other tasks and give us a ton of wasted hammers.
