Okay Krill has badgered me for some T50 thoughts. I believe his exact quote was:
Krill Wrote:I want your thoughts
I want your mind
I want your soul, even
So.... okay then!!
I am enjoying the map. The one negative I feel is that it seems like the contacts are not distributed equally. It's not as big of a deal in a NTT game, but we have only met 1 other civ, while that civ (Mackoti / Ioan) has met 6 others I believe! It's certainly possible that is due to "poor" scouting choices by us (a la Krill's team in PB1) but it is still frustrating. And by "poor" choices, I don't mean that it is necessarily our fault (or Krill's fault in PB1), but just the decision that we made turned out to be not the way where people are. In our case, we scouted north and that turned out to be a dead end. Then we went SW and that also turned out to be a dead-end. I believe we will meet plako and WarriorKnight as we move down south and we'll have to see from there.
I'm interested to see how the "peak blockers" turn out to work. As we've discussed earlier in this thread, it seems like one "feature" of the layout is somewhat of a GLH nerf, which is fine. It seems like this will provide borders with many different civs, which I like.
Tech pace has seemed very slow, as compared to PB1, at least for us. It appears that everyone was given the same start (at least the same BFC), and we were the only "rogues" who moved our capital coastal. One impact of this was that everyone was working these deer and cow tiles, which don't provide any commerce. Also no coastal civs and only one financial team, which slows down tech pace. Though it certainly seems like some civs are teching faster than us.
Which leads me to kind of a critique of our gameplay. I think it's been pretty poor
. I definitely feel like we have been slipping behind, mostly due to our GLH gambit. If we miss out on the GLH (and I'm definitely nervous about it - luddite looks like he's going for it and his 2nd (coastal) city is already size 5!), then we are going to be VERY behind. Even if we get it, I'm nervous about our long-term viability.
One good thing that we seem to have to be lots of land. So with our UB (in a way it's nearly as good as a Rathaus, when combined with a regular courthouse) plus GLH, I think we are in okay shape.
We touched on this a bit earlier, but I really wish we were Louis (Cre / Ind)
. That would help us so much on a few levels right now: a) GLH faster obviously, and b) we wouldn't need a monument in our 2nd city
Anything else anyone wants my thoughts on?
