Since PBEM3 and PBEM7 have concluded, I've been starting to feel the itch to start another PBEM. I definitely have the time for it now and my summer will be very conducive to PBEM. I would consider starting either a straight up BtS PBEM, or I would also consider a "FFH for newbs" PBEM (I have roughly 90 minutes of FFH experience) with veteran ded-lurkers. My preference is probably on the BtS side, but I wanted to throw this out there and see if there's any interest in something like this, or if everyone's just about PBEM'd out. So, any takers?

Funny, I was thinking about posting this very thread yesterday! I'm in one now that I've taken over for athlete in PBEM 6, but I really wanted to be in one from scratch.
As for type, I'm unable to do FFH as I'm on a mac and the mod doesn't translate. So straight up BtS? I'd be willing.

Yep - straight up BtS would be my preference anyways, so that would work great if we get a few more. 5 is about the right number for a PBEM, because the bigger you get the bigger risk of a missed turn in a day, and the quickest way to ruin a PBEM is to miss turns consistently.

Hopefully there are still some people who are interested and not mired in other PBEMs.
Should we make this as new player friendly as possible?

What do you mean by as friendly to new players as possible? I mean in what way could that be done?

Heh, I'm not even sure. I mean I've been talking to Roland about playing a PBEM, but he's has no real experience with MP Civ and isn't that experienced in Civ to begin with. I suppose that could be solved by having someone experienced delurk with him.
I suppose what I really meant was having it be more casual? Though even so I'm sort of competitive so I think I'd still go full on.
I'm also thinking about the map that RefSteel created for Kyan and his friends. He created the map in a way so that the more experienced player had a bit more challenge with resources, land and AI (though obviously we wouldn't use AI here). Maybe we could do something similar if we end up with varying levels of experience. I'd understand if that would be too complicated though.
Anyway that's what I meant. I have no problem disregarding all of that anyway and just playing straight up, just thought I'd mention the possibilities.

I'm interested but have certain conditions in mind:
- BtS without mods.
- No tech trading.
- Spies either banned or handicapped.
- No mirrors, extremely equalised starting positions or such crap. Bottom line I want a natural looking map that's worth exploring.
- No highland map.
- I'd want a very specific time frame where I'm supposed to play the game, and will ignore the save outside of this time frame.
- I'd reserve the right to immediately drop out if the game is held up repeatedly or extensively.
- No scooter chickening out when he sees my signup. I know he's prone to run off to some corner and hide.
These are not negotiable, so if either of this doesn't fit just count me out. I also see that Serdoa and Krill had the time to jump in ahead of me as I wrote this, so maybe I'm too late anyway.

I'd also have a vague interest in another game - most of Sandovers settings appeal to me as well. However, if you're successful in getting the big boys to sign up, I'd just as happily lurk, I harbor no delusions that I'm on a level playing field with Krill or Sandover.
The maps a big one. I pretty much hate the maps for the 3 most recent PBEMs (no offense to eir creators) and would most enjoy something like the maps for PBEMs 6 or 7.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
