I have to disagree with Spaceman on huts, apart from that he speaks for us. Remember to state your opinions on corps as well.
I have to run.

regoarrarr Wrote:So back from page 1, this is what I listed as settings of the game, slightly updated
So, we have 5 players already and need one more
1. darrelljs
2. regoarrarr
3. Shoot the Moon
4. Kyan
5. novice / spacemanmf
Here were the basic settings we had agreed to
* 5 person
I presume we are full now or we're going for 6?
regoarrarr Wrote:* No leader / civ restrictions (unrestricted leaders), snake draft This please.
regoarrarr Wrote:* No active Espionage (great spies must be settled / GA)
* No nukes
* No Tech trading
* Custom Continents, one continent per player - note this does not necessarilly have to be the Cust Cont map script - just the idea is that everyone is on their "own" continent
* All continents are galley reachable by every other player, without having to go through a 3rd continent
* No coastal capitals
* "Lush" settings, with extra resources (maybe each continent has at least one of every resource?)
* Continents are not exactly the same but are balanced
* No War Elephants / Elephant UUs
* Events off
* No permanent alliances
* No vassal states
* Default Starting Units
* The Heroic Epic and West Point can only be built once you have a qualifying unit that has always been yours, and if joined to a GG, the GG was one you spawned yourself
* No restrictions on settling only on "your" continent
All good.
regoarrarr Wrote:Settings up for discussion
* Any other intermediate islands between continents?
* I'm thinking toroidal wrap - main reason is that I don't see any good way to make it so everyone borders everyone else otherwise.
* Monarch-ish difficulty / maybe lower if we do toroidal
* Normal barbs
* Huts?
* Contact only upon in game meeting?
* No map trading / screenshots till paper?
* No out of game diplo?
Interim islands can be fun.
Toroidal wrap *or* clever mapmaking. I'd probably vote toroidal. Since this would then mean low difficulty (prince?) i'd vote No barbarians. They're largely irrelevant on these difficulties anyway but it removes an annoying random element of luck.
Huts- i don't mind.
I agree with the other options.

If we're going no barbs we might up the difficulty to buff Organized and rush civs (slower tech pace)? Say, Emperor difficulty, or toroidal Monarch? I've always felt that techs come too fast on quick speed anyway, if quick speed is what people are thinking.

I would prefer nothing TOO clever. Just a standardish map, trying to maximize galleyable contact - it may not even be possible even with toroidal i don't know

@T-Hawk - All excellent points on sequential pitboss. Frankly it's also just less of a pain. I don't care to load a non-standard gmail account every time I go to play a PBEM turn and then manually grad a save out of a folder 9 layers (counted) deep on my hard drive.
This
Shoot the Moon Wrote:I also prefer pbem because I frequently play on my laptop and the ability to easily reload if I miss-click is quite nice. cuts both ways. I definitely see the usefulness in reloading due to misclicks, but pitboss is also, Memphis in the demogame notwithstanding, much more secure from exploitative moves.
Krill Wrote:and you you don't need the network issues that go with that. It is in my experience a lot simpler to set up a blitz for a PBEM game than a PB game due to the connection issues
Not disputing this since I trust Krill's experience, however let me repeat that people like Atlas, Speaker, and myself have played literally hundreds of MP games with 10-12 people in them and from a pool of literally hundreds of players. We had basically no network issues. It's true that for people in locked-down networks or without admin access to their PC's firewall there are issues, but otherwise getting everything working perfectly should be trivial.

+1. I don't care much on the rest of the settings.
Can we start the snake pick now?

I don't like this setting at all. It would probably be a clincher for me if im honest. Diplo is important. However, if you do all want to go that route, then mackoti implied above that he was interested so it wouldn't stop the game getting off the ground. I won't be offended if that's the case
