RBP4 [SPOILERS] - Shaka of Zulu (sunrise089, regoarrarr, and friends)

He tells me all those "mean" and "bad" things in private chats outside the forum, of course...

Settler is already on the way to the clams site - will found in 4 turns (T91). You could certainly read SM's email as allowing us to settle there

Quote:While I am willing to concede the clam site as part of the border agreement

it's certainly up for alternate impressions and I don't plan (at least at this point) to settle without more direct "permission"

Moogle's email is interesting to me. It's candid and full of righteous indignation, but it's missing just one thing - some sort of actual justification as to why he would get that land. Even if you reject our justification (which is that we'd only be placing an equal or equal-minus-one number of cities there, that doesn't create instant justification for moogle to get the land instead. In fact I'd call founding your 8th city or whatever to be the "overreaching" move.

Being able to "bad cop" your partner can be very helpful. This sort of thing is common in sales, where a salesman can play off of a (real or imagined) partner or manager.
I used to do some sales calls with another salesman, and we found these tactics to be worth splitting the commission.
"Terry... Jeff is never going to approve that discount."
"You let me worry about him... What do you think of the product ma'am?"

Okay - brief diplo update and I know that I owe a more "picture-y" update, which I will attempt to do later today.

Basically I agreed to not settle near those clams of LP and got no concession for it frown

I believe we have a NAP till T140.

Also reply from Moogle - things looking better there

Quote:Well it seems like we're getting things rolling at least. If our Civs are to be in bed together, I would think something along the following lines:

*I concede the clams site to you. In return, you allow me to settle a city east of it, with the understanding that I will make a reasonable effort not to culturally crush the city. If you, say, build a library to expand the border, it will counter my Creative trait and I will avoid placing any other cultural buildings unless needed (in which case I will let you know in advance).

*I would like to directly control the northern Ivory resource in the screenshot, probably through a city placed to its northeast (maybe 2N of the Horses). This probably means the middle finger will fall under my control; however in return I won't contest you settling the lower two fingers and claiming the southern Ivory resource.

*We sign a long-term NAP and pledge to form a united front against Adlain in case he objects to our expansion. (this agreement is of course to be kept secret unless we both agree revealing it makes sense). Specifics can be hammered out further, but could be up to and including aiding each other military should it come to war. In the meantime we keep open borders so you will benefit from the added trade routes, and can discuss other, similar arrangements down the line.

Hoping that sounds like a good starting point at least. :-)

Response back to Moogle

Quote:Okay I think that we are definitely moving in the same direction. I particularly like where you were going about the longer-term arrangement vs. Adlain.

I don't have a lot of time right now, but I don't object in principle to you settling a city site to the east of our clams city, nor to a site somewhere around 2N of the horse tile (controlling the Northern Ivory finger).

Hopefully you are around now or soon, because I wanted to clarify that you were okay with our settling the clams tile. I have been told that we are last to play this current turn, and before I play this set of 2 turns, I need to know if you're okay with it. I'd have to check in-game on exactly where things are, but I know that we have a settler in production or on the move, and before I play these turns, I need to know if it needs to go east to the clams site or somewhere else.

It sounded like we were far enough along in the discussions that you were okay with it, but I didn't want to mis-interpret what you said, and derail the whole discussion over it

Let me know

I believe that we settle the clams site in 2 turns. Workboat is already on the way, and the worker is roading that way in preparation to chop into the granary.

Our city site is marked in the top left with a "c" - it's 1SE of the clam tile I believe

Okay so Cyneheard asked me for a more "State of the Empire" overview, rather than all this diplo blah.

First, here's the demographics.

Here's the executive summary

10

lol

Okay - here's the details

I wasn't kidding, you know! Now, I am on all gold this turn - if I go to breakeven that brings GNP to 9th, and if I run max science that makes GNP 7th. I'm actually starting to get a little worried.

Here's an overview of "the empire"

City by City rundown:

Vine (NE of the screen): Just whipped out a settler (5->3), is currently growing back out to size 5, where it will whip another worker or settler
Reading (SE): Finishing up an impi - will do an axe, send them both east to the new city and then another impi / axe pair to head south. Plan is for this to be the main military producer, since it's more "central" to where the cities are / are going.
Montgomery (E): Just whipped a worker (4->2), and is overflowing to a settler. Once we capture the overflow, I'll grow that back up to size 4 and whip the settler when it can be 2 pop whipped
Colerain (S): Just finished the fur camp - it just whipped a monument to expand and get the horses / rice online. It's at size 2 - it will go up to size 4 and then whip a worker or settler.
Hamilton (NW): Is at size 1, slow growing while working the mined copper tile. It built a monument and is on a granary (due in 2) then it will build a workboat and start growing faster.

The next city is going in the far east, 1SE of the clams on the indicated "c" tile. I believe it's founded T91 which I think is 2-3 turns from now, pending response back from SleepingMoogle.

After that, maybe 2W of the northern pigs? Again that's not first ring food which is annoying but we do have to adjust the dotmap since we've apparently agreed not to settle on the NW "c" tile. Another option if we want to continue our crazy landgrab would be the southern rice / copper site (Bob's Fork). Possibly a cows or fish city to the north of the capital is also on the table.

Holy crap, those demographics are terrible. I hope you're not saving your A game for PBEM17.
I have to run.
