darrelljs Wrote:Well, we have to decide now pretty much. Pottery is in. I'll do a turn report in the morning (no time now), but a few questions:
1. Why the Fish city location? If we aren't settling the Stone, the best spot is 2E of the Stone. I know we can't share the Rice that way.
2. Why settle a city inland on Incense if we know we aren't getting a holy city? First, plains Incense is a great tile to waste. Second, we get trade connections via coast. I would say if we go for two cities lets still settle the NE.
I'm going to have to play with the sim myself now.
Darrell
1. can work cottages for city and can share rice, and allows city 3N for the fish as well.
2. Can use sheep and can work cottage for capital as well. Other options would be to settle to the south and use the corn. Allows you to get 3 cities out and for them to grow quickly to size 2 and then slave out workers.
There are no close coastal cities that can immediately start working food. Nada. They need to get 20 hammers for workboats which aren't going to be easy to scrape together even with chops and workers will be sparse.
FWIW, I am not sure I like this route that much, so I'm running a more straightforward sim now. I do think I prefer it to early Henge though.

I see your sandbox save. I might mess around with it, but I doubt I will have anything more useful than either of you could come up with.

Just rushing through, so I know I could do the MM better than this one.
With a quite different dotmap:
3 workers and granary in the capital. Worker in capital could be switched for a 3-turn Settler.
What is the map wrap and difficulty?
EDIT: I think about the best I can do with that dotmap is have Heliopolis grow one turn sooner, a Settler ready to whip at the capital next turn, and an extra floodplains cottage developed.

Thanks for taking a look ! So, its Prince with Toroidal wrap. Where your dotmap adjustments to get the Fish and Corn inside the inner box of the BFC? It looks like you saved the forests, and by your tech path you plan on hitting them when Mathematics comes in?

Attached is a sanddox from the current turn, in case you want to try AH first. I have been playing around with an "expansion focus" using this dotmap that also grabs Corn/Fish in the inner box of the BFC:
I am having trouble matching Krill's expansion, not surprising given he gets the Rice immediately. I'm also giving up a few coastal tiles. So its probably best to jam those cities in there.
Shoot the Moon is up, so we are next, so we need to make a decision soon I reckon. The real question is AH or Mining next? If the Corn is almost as fast as the Sheep, then I'd prefer to defer the decision and plan on Sheep improved after Corn. Have to run some sims first.

If you want fast growth, I still think settling for the rice gives the fastest growth possible and that city fits into the dotmap perfectly. The problem with going the fish first is that you have to either delay BW or do AH after fishing, and you can't get the wb out fast enough. The problem with the corn city is it loses 2 turns compared to the rice city because it is further away, and can't work the corn for 3 turns after settling, so it is about 5 turns behind the rice city; the capital is usually best slaved from 4>2, meaning that one food res can't be worked, so giving the rice away to the second city isn't taking anything away from the capital.

Yeah, Krill's way is better. I just wanted to try something different to see what would happen.
I think I teched BW, chopped a few forests until AH was done, did the sheep, and then constantly whipped 5-->3 and even 6-->3 for a settler because the capital would regrow in one turn each of those growths. I did fishing after AH and put one turn on a granary before switching to a WB which I whipped. I also had the corn hooked up the same turn the corn city was founded, with a another worker replacing the prior two to finish the second FP cottage. I think I founded the corn city on turn 35 and it would be ready to grow EOT 36 if I hadn't screwed up my T32 worker micro slightly.
After Fishing, the tech path could be whatever you wanted under the way I did it. Probably Mysticism, and after that Sailing or Math?

Actually your fish city is what is making this intriguing. By t40 I can get 3-4 cities down and 2-3 settlers walking around, and 7+ pop in cities, plus an easy 3 workers, all the fps cottaged, and another 2 workers about to be finished. It's a lot more elegant, a lot fast in tech and about the same on long term growth as settling for hte incense, perhaps even faster. It requires AH then BW to Fishing, settling the rice city as normal, getting a second worker before third settler and getting 2 forest chops in, but it works quite well. need to build warriors in 2nd/3rd city, and slave out a workboat for the fish.

Do you move the fish city 1N or the rice city 1S?
