[SPOILERS - PBEM17] regoarrarr - Bismarck of Inca

Cyneheard Wrote:Yeah, Krill thinks we screwed up by pushing too hard on oledavy by threatening him into a NAP. I don't know what all we can do at this point; this game came down to emotional decisions by players, not civ play.

Wait, what?

When we pushed for that NAP with oledavy, and asking for concessions. I suspect those concessions really ticked him off.

But we didn't actually DO that. Unless oledavy is reading our thread....

What did we actually send him, then?

Okay here's what I was able to see from my chat logs. I had moved some frigates over near T-Hawk in response to all his East Indiamen. I dropped him a note mentioning that

He replied on Aug 31

Quote:Your frigates movements have not been taken as an aggressive action, it is only to be expected. On the subject of a renewing an NAP – allow me to get back up to speed on the game and consult with some people before giving you a definitive answer.

Sep 12 I noticed his 2nd stack of EIs

Quote:Any explanation for the 8 East Indiamen sitting off the coast of Hattin on our border?

We then had a chat

Quote:dave: Hi
me: hey
5:44 PM dave: An airship spotted a galleon in position to boat the lightly guarded city of Hattin
They're there to deter any hostile action
5:45 PM me: wow 8 east indiamen to deter my one galleon? smile
dave: I'm paranoid, what can I say :D
5:46 PM me: so surely you can see how i might feel threatened by them?
5:47 PM dave: Yes, I can
me: i mean my guys fight well but there's only so much they could do against 32 muskets
5:48 PM smile
dave: Those Incans are ferocious fighters so I hear :P
me: heh
5:49 PM dave: nonetheless, the East Indiamen are merely a deterent and I do not plan to boat T-Hawk
me: i guess for me
it depends on whether you plan to attack me or not
5:50 PM something that to me
has remained unclear
for several turns
you're in nationhood and have rifling
i am also in nationhood and have rifling
we're fairly evenly matched technologically
i have frigates, you have EIs
you have airships, but i have a MFG production lead
it doesn't seem like it makes sense for us to fight
5:51 PM dave: Not really, it will only drag both of us back while Darrell techs to space
me: right
5:52 PM so i feel like i need some (concrete) assurances from you regarding the 15 (!) East Indiamen near my borders
because i feel like i can't let you get in the first punch
5:54 PM dave: understandable
likewise, would rather not have Hattin razed smile
me: also understandable
5:55 PM so last time we talked, i had proposed a short term rolling NAP
that gives us both flexibility should things change
but in the meantime means we don't have to worry as much about opportunistic boatings
and such
5:56 PM dave: what should I do with my military then? I have a substantial force built up, if I do not leverage it into more land I slip into a position of irrelevancy
5:57 PM me: wait i thought you weren't going to attack me? smile
5:58 PM dave: I didn't say I was wink
just spelling out my position
6:00 PM me: sorry - computer hiccupped
dave: it's all good
me: anyways i understand what you're saying
but i don't think that throwing your muskets (and soon to be rifles) against my muskets (and soon to be rifles) is going to get you anything
6:01 PM dave: fair point, on that we can agree
6:03 PM proposition: I actually have to run to meet with my study group at the moment, but I will be back on later tonight (~10pm) I'm also going to consult Kyan in that time if I can
me: okay i should be around
dave: If you will hold the save until then, we can talk, iron out our differences before you play the turn
me: is that 10 pm your time or mine?
dave: and boat me or go our seperate ways accordingly smile

Further chatting

Quote: 10:23 PM dave: alrighty
10:24 PM I need to hear from him before I can start talking about an NAP renewal
me: may i ask why?
10:25 PM dave: If you feel lucky, you can boat Hattin smile will make the game more interesting
previous deal with Darrell
10:26 PM me: really?
that sounds interesting
as for hattin i probably wouldn't boat it
if we're not able to reach a nap deal
i would probably just sink the majority of your EIs :-)
10:27 PM dave: I think you mistake how many of them I have
me: i've counted 15
dave: :D
me: are there more than that?
10:28 PM dave: you've got what, 8 frigates?
me: okay maybe majority wasn't the right word
10:29 PM how about "buncha"? smile
dave: whatever floats your boat
me: hey is that a naval pun? smile
dave: bad pun intended
me: lol
10:30 PM dave: at any rate, yeah, you can sink a good number of them
me: so would it be accurate to say that you would prefer to sign some sort of deal with me but are unsure as to whether it conflicts with a previous deal you have with darrell?
10:31 PM or is that not true
dave: yes, more or less
Depending on what I hear from Darrell
I am open to resigning the NAP

He invites me to boat the city of Hattin. I reply back that I'd probably just sink his EIs. Maybe this is what he is talking about? In hindsight, I vastly underestimated a) how many EIs he had, and b) how much of a difference Airships would make, both in Frigate vs. EI battles as well as in amphibious attacks.

By the way, I see you're building a Destroyer in Zakalwe. Did you manage to dislodge Dave's Oil-camping party (taking out the Medic GG to boot), or is NoSpace sending you Oil?

Those nancies never even made it off their hill. They're still sitting there on the hill. I put a MG and a few rifles into the fort.

If they move off the hill I will kill them.

Quote:Hey nospace,

A few things. As I was chatting with novice this morning, I do have a Great Scientist that would probably be more useful for you. I could use some airships, frigates / gold to upgrade them, or anything else. If you have any airships already that you can rebase to my capital city of plako, the sooner the better. Dave's got 11 rifles and 2 cannons trying to disconnect my oil. I've got some surprises for him of course.

I will try to remember to have 50 gold if you want / need to request it, or just "put it on my tab" smile

Also, you may know this or not already but in talking with darrell, his plan is

1) Kill me
2) Kill you
3) Hope that shoot and dave don't 2v1 him.

I know that you had mentioned possibly signing a MDP with him, but I didn't get the impression that he was at all serious about doing that. He was pretty cocky about his Financial / Kremlin / US towns, which are each worth at least 9 hammers.

As I know painfully enough, it's hard to stop a 3v1.

Open for suggestions....

Looks like Shoot got a little anxious (or got bad RNG) at Mardoc

I killed 11 rifles and 1 infantry for the loss of 2 rifles.

Sorry for no pics - I got a new laptop and it keeps telling me "Screenshot Failed", and I haven't figured it out.

Dave also landed another stack near my oil. He has 11 rifles and 2 cannons that can hit my oil fort next turn.

I got a GG from all the fighting at Mardoc, so I used him to give 4XP to 3 1XP rifles, a C1 spear and a C2 quechua. So gave me 3 Pinch rifles and 2 Combat MGs. I have 5 rifles and 4 MGs in that fort, so that should be enough.

Darrell's destroyers are back in the area, and I'm likely to lose Mackoti next turn.
