This time with Sciz

Sciz Wrote:Hey Dantski!

Haven't talked with you much, I haven't talked to anyone really though
since my injury, because it's been really annoying to type, but I got
my casts removed today so it's much easier.

How's the game treating you? The land is bad of course, which is a
shame, but everyone's equal there I guess. It does make scouting
boring though, since all the city sites are crap :P

Have you met everyone yet? I'm still missing Jkaen, but other than
that I'm good. I can't find him though, my scouts all got killed my
animals frown

How do you see this game progressing? Seems like the tech pace is
going to be slow, except for Selrahc and his pirate coves I guess. and
Irgy/Mardoc's kuriotates will be scary with their mega cities I
assume. I'm not sure if the bad terrain is to their advantage or not.

Cheers,

Sciz

Dantski Wrote:Hi Sciz

Glad to hear your casts are off, I had a very difficult time writing with one on and its definitely easier if sometimes a little tender when they're removed

I think the game progressing slowly has been a significant contributor to the lack of diplomatic relations this game, also no-one is right on anyone elses doorstep so squabbles over land haven't taken place yet.

As for the land and how it affects everyone, I think this type of map is awful for Kuriotates. Yes I'd expect them to do well early to midgame, but they'll need to lever that advantage to have a chance later on.

I am in the same boat as yourself regarding contacts, Jkaen must be totally surrounded by southern barbarians + animals as my scout was unable to make contact with him too.

Game progression wise, I think given your civ/leader pick some of us are waiting to see what you do in the future. You probably aren't going to win a peaceful builder game so you're the joker in the pack.

How are things going in Hippus land? Any cool events? (barring the culture one early)

-Dantski

I don't want to get too pally with the most likely to war civ. He's already mentioned Selrahc's GNP so would expect him to be the likely target of any aggression. If I wasn't doing any kind of roleplaying I'd be happy to have directed him in Selrahc's direction. I may well have done so with my remark about the Kuriotates though.

Current land

Unsure where to settle next, the ? marked in the east will be sorely lacking for food before I can irrigate over to it. Possibly 1N of the sheep in the W grabbing the Oasis as well would be better.

Current demo's

Population is obviously down a little due to the event that lost me 1. GNP is worrying though, even when I get the gold connected in 12 or so turns I'll be behind.

Exchanged a few more emails with Sciz, seems he forgot I was his eastern neighbour so he's probably not looking to powergame too much lol

No deal! I need more incentive than that

Well I just got an incentive to post a picture

1. My west scout was immediately eaten by a scorpion, I really cannot get any damn map info in that area without losing my unit straight away. 3 have tried and failed to fill in fog in that area.

2. Without any warning my seemingly safe capital was taken by a Goblin! Wait hang on a sec, the goblin is 2 str attacking across a river vs a 3 str warrior in a city with 20% + defensive bonus with fortify, what gives? Oh wait a MISTFORM took the warrior out..... just great.

Well as the screenshot shows I took Geneva back, but unless I get lucky, the mistform kills the defender next turn. So what do I do?

1. Accept this as a blessing. I'm dead and won't need to post anymore turn updates!

2. Spam warriors, hunting is 12 turns away which gives me a better chance.

3. Build more workers, Mukha keeps telling me I need to build more workers.

So I have veered down the path of 2+3 and crossed my fingers, toes and nostril hair in an attempt to avert further bad luck

Alrighty

Mistform down. He only killed 2 warriors total so ultimately I got off lightly.

5 turns until hunting, 10 or fewer until my settler completes and I'll found a little west between my 2 cities. The spot is more about being helpful short term rather than long term as it doesn't really claim any land or new resources but won't take long to be worthwhile.

Scouting is officially over until I get some hunters + hawks built, the barbarians are just too numerous and strong righ now.

No new foreign affairs news, I'll definitely see where the Kuriotates are after their misfortunes though.

Ok another update (without poking this time!) lol

Basic view of my land currently, future expansion is a bit tricky with no good choices on offer until I can get KotE and water adepts up. I'll probably grab the incense/sheep to the east just to keep things rolling. Techwise I'm heading to Drama to hopefully get my first artist.

Now as some of you might've guessed, the other players have been doing things since my last update. One of those people was Selrahc who decided to ditch his seafaring ways to become the Lord of the Balors. I guess he wanted to play around with the Infernals this game and look to use a PoW style rush only this time with Hyborem + champions. Now granted it sounds like the Kuriotates are virtually eliminated, but Selrahc is in a whole heap of trouble because.

1. Aside from the AI controlling Lanun, he has no source of manes. His cities are likely going to stay small.

2. Aside from maybe Sciz's Hippus, who would want to ally with him? Frankly these developments are perfect for Sciz if he is going to horseman/chariot rush since people are distracted. On the other hand it means other people will probably have better defences...hmm.

Anyway Mardoc sent out emails to everyone (well not Selrahc obviously) telling us the situation and me and Ichabod made serious offers to give him a settler/city to keep him in the game. Initially Mardoc was happy to say yes to that, however he's had a change of mind and decided not to take us up on it because he doesn't feel like playing out in a weakened state.

Unfortunately I can't help Mardoc before he dies, however I did send Ichabod an email telling him I'd help if the Infernals attack him next. Even if they don't this may help relations between us.

Anyway a pic of the land between myself and Kuriotates

Mostly desert, I find it an extremely unlikely possibility that Selrahc would attack me next (ichabod is the best target although perhaps too strong, jkaen is the other option) but good to know howw long it would take. Definitely should listen to Ichabod and get a road built towards him ASAP.

The demographics

GNP still stinks a bit, Power looks silly with Hyborem alone counting as a million soldiers or something silly like that. Ichabod is likely #1 in GNP and Sciz has solid food + production I suspect.

So how is my game going? Aside from the Mistform its going alright for someone who doesn't play Civ outside of this game and just wings everything. I'm further behind on tech than I'd like to be and with cottages unlikely to be built soon thats not going to change too much. I have my core 3 cities that I'll need for a culture run so we'll see what happens.

As for the last 50 turn updates, read Speaker's update in his Pitboss 6 thread and the same is true.

Main question is who Selrahc targets next, Ichabod is the score leader and has the 2nd most powerful military so he seems a good choice, JKaen is also an option as he seems to be the weakest human player and probably won't be hard to kill quickly.

I'm not in any position to help JKaen (I still haven't met him! Although I've found some well promoted animals west of his territory) but I'll send my motley group of hunters and warriors to aid Ichabod in any way I can. Ichabod is producing trebs which will be invaluable for softening the high strength + promotions on the Infernal units but it'll still come down to quantity vs quality.

There is of course the lesser possibility of Selrahc attacking Sciz or myself, seems unlikely though.

Argh! Ichabod beat me to Drama by 2 turns, no idea why he's researched it as it doesn't seem like any kind of priority for the Khazad.

Also finally made contact with JKaen this turn with Hawk help, didn't realise he was still on 2 cities so wonder what happened there.

Teching KotE instead so I can start converting some of the desert into useful tiles.
