Learning Capria FFH SG

A learning SG for three players who have started to learn FFH on their own, but wants to improve faster. Lots of discussions and some thinking ahead! The turnplayers are:

Brian Shanahan
Haphazard1 (from turn 180)
kjn
Hart (on leave since turn 180)

Leader: Capria of the Bannor
Difficulty: Emperor
World Size: Standard
Game Speed: Normal

Raging Barbarians, Living World, Wildlands, and All Unique Features

For those playing around, at turn 100 our cities changed names:
  • Torrolerial became Bologna
  • Vallus became Paris
  • Trinity became Oxford
  • Tentatio-onis became Salamanca

Interesting waypoints:

Original proposal behind the cut:

Any interest in running an FfH SG? Succession games used to be one of the pillars of RB, and it'd be a shame if both them and the variant games disappeared.

My current thoughts are on a relatively introductory game using Tholal's More Naval AI, as a good teaching tool for non-expert players. I'm thinking Emperor level, standard or large map, and Erebus Continents, but am open to other settings.

As for leader and civ, I'm thinking Capria (Spi/Ind) of the Bannor. Spiritual will give us plenty of opportunity to explore various civics and religions and makes it easier to recover from mistakes there. No other special strengths make us dependant on good gameplay.

Any preference for running this here or on Civ fanatics?

Maybe make it EitB? It includes Tholal's AI modifications within it.

I'd be interested, though I'm definitely not available between the 20th and 26th of this month.

I thought about EitB, but I think I'd prefer "vanilla". I'm not sure how baked EitB is, there are more players with base FfH, and I'm not sure about some of the design decisions made so far in EitB (though I haven't followed the development in detail).

No problem with being away for a time in an SG, really. With five players, a turnset will likely take a week anyway.

Definitely interested.

I'd recommend the Malakim or the Ljosalfar instead. Still Spiritual, but probably not as boring as the Bannor is.

I like Arendel, but she removes one of the big questions in the early game: how to get the border expansions. The Ljosalfar also have less need to specialise cities, since basically every non-resource tile will end up as 2-2-4 or 3-1-4. PoLs casting Bloom is also the most boring micro in the game, IMO.

Malakim and Varn Gosam bears thinking about. Adaptive could be fun to work with, but Varn is also creative early game. Using upgraded lightbringers to get potency mages or buffed rangers could be interesting, but it's pretty advanced play (on the other hand, that is part of what we want to do).

Does anyone else have any ideas for a leader/civ they want to explore?

Well we had fun with the switch leader choice (you have to bring 2 leaders to the top of the board, where you switch to the worst and win the game with the third. There are some time restrictions on it.) in my first FfH SG over on CFC (ran by Ichabod thanks). We could have fun with that.

EitB has some great ideas (especially where balancing the civics goes) but has some IMO broken changes. OTH, the best way to get a broken change fixed is to demonstrate how broken it is to the person making the mod. wink

Find one of the changes that you think are broken in the mod and demonstrate how/why the change was a bad idea. Then we get a better mod. smile

PLS break the Ljos. Ancient Forest/Republic Towns =sick. and they can get fast growth from FT. PLS break this combo and get the +1 hammer for Towns under Rep removed from the mod.

I might be interested in participating in an EitB SG. Not signing up yet tho.

What would really be fun, albeit a bit outside the original proposal, would be a Perpy SG, where every player does whatever the hell they want with their turn-set & doesn't tell anyone else what their plans are =)

I'd def. join something like that. Otherwise, it depends on what kind of game you want to run.

Heh. That makes it three SG proposals bandied about in the thread.

One vanilla game, mainly for learning purposes.

One EitB game - and I believe Ilios has already started prep work for one such with Darrell.

One variant game with high-to-low.

Now, I have nothing against fun and wacky variants, but can we please get one thread for each game proposal, especially if they're going to be quite different in focus?
