I don't like Nabaxo's opening much.

Going Warrior first isn't horrible. Going Ag first isn't horrible. Doing both a the same time....bleah.

Either Worker first + Ag OR Warr/warr/ Myst for GK/then Ag.

He might be able to get away with it due to double Floodplains, but he's hampering his opening with the Ag/warrior play.

Yell0w appears to have screwed himself by moving off the PH (the uniproved river Cows are the same yeild at the FP....all he's done is cost himself 1h/t and the hill bonus for defence (+Guerilla).

hard to tell for the rest of the players...more updates would be nice. smile

This game is total facepalm all over. Why is Tholal researching Mysticism and not Agriculture? Crog thinks he should have researched Exploration for roads first? huh I think xenin is doing it right, but no mention of his tech.

What are the contingencies for what techs/builds from T0 anyway? As I understand it:
-Good grains means Ag/Worker first
-Bad grains and/or a source of irrigation means Ag and Calendar
-Grains and wines means crafting first
-Lots of plains forests plus a high-tech +1 food tile means mysticism first

Is that the best way to do it?

And he lost the plains river incense. That's a crazy good tile so early in the game.

It's even worst because the luchuirp can really benefit from the plains hill settling (maybe even working the deer instead of the foodplains for a faster mud golem - don't know for sure which one would end up being best).

More or less. I tend to think more in general principles, though, than each case. You want your food first - not much point in stalling out at size 2. And of course food buys you workers and settlers. Then you want to get some commerce, and wrap things up with whatever worker techs you still need to hook up your remaining resources. Then you start on whatever your main plan is for the game.

There's a bunch of different possibilities for what your food and commerce come from, which is why there's no hard rule on how to get there.

I do agree with the Thoth and NobleHelium, both Yellow and Cromagnumpi made me want to yell at them. Hopefully they get better as the game goes on.

Hrm. As with so many other things in C4/FFH...it depends.

As Mardoc says, you want food as a very high priority.

But depending on your civ/leader/start tiles gunning for Myst first can work. Personally I don't like Crafting first even with Wines (unless I have a civ that starts with AG). I'd rather get those food specials improved (irrigated Meat resources can be farmed as a stop gap if AH isn't desirable as a second tech (no starting Ag) or 1st tech (civs who start with AG).

Ag/worker first starts get you going on food fast (which is good) but for some game settings worker first is sub-optimal (ie: Diety raging barbs).

Lots of factors in play that can affect early tech/build choices. I don't think there is "one right choice here".

The key is being able to evaluate your starting position/leader/tech/civ and make the best choice you can based on your gameplan.
