A History of Random Moments

Have you ever played a single player game of Civ and had something happen that was so hilarious or incredible that you just have to share it with your bestest best friends on RB? Or have you ever been in MP game where everything went to hell in such a spectacular fashion that no one will believe you unless there were photographic evidence? Do you have moments from non-civ games that fit these descriptions?

This is the thread for you. We've all had moments like this and often we show moments like these that occur in PBEMs and Pitbosses in our spoiler threads. But there are sometimes when we don't have a forum or platform to tell everyone about our harrowing moments or simply lung splitting hilarity. Now there is, so come here and post it.

So after that rather Epic opening, I hope this lives up.

So last night I was... home alone and was chatting up people online. I was speaking with Novice when he informed me that Spaceman was going to introduce him to CIV MP on Gamespy. I invited myself along and we worked up a 3p ffa. We rolled random and it was fairly even traits. I had one of the most delicious starts I've ever had, and was looking very forward to it. There was, however, an Out of sync error. But we were all chatting in the game and figured, we'd just play on because Novice was on a quickly overheating laptop. Within 10 minutes Novice dropped and we logged out while it cooled off. Then we logged in again and loaded into the game.

When we logged back in I was not in MY game. Apparently we had been playing separate games with the out of sync error. I lost my beautiful start. To add insult the AI had been playing my start with Novice and space. rolleye smoke

The AI did this:

No worker, settled away from 2 clams, building a barracks...

My start looked something like this:

My sweet double corn, grass pig, double sugar with a 3f cap plant with forests and plains forest hill for the EXP bonus.

I believe Novice and Space would also like to contribute to this story.

You could just worldbuilder your dream start, Lewwyn.

The hilarious part of course was
a) We couldn't tell drunk Lewwyn from an AI
b) Lewwyn's reaction when we reloaded:

Its not exactly hilarious, but its just something rare that I thought I'd share.

I played a Monarch game last night with events on and I managed to get a mine up to a 10 hammer yield at one point.

That's a plains hill, with coal, with the +2h 'tin' event, with a railroad and in a Golden Age.

Was hoping to perhaps see a really funky icon for it, alas not really

Lightweight, where's the levee for an 11th? lol

Yeah there's actually a bug with the icons when a tile has 10+ yield. It just shows one of the "5" icons instead of two. The common case is 10 commerce from a town, PPress, Free Speech, river, Financial, and Golden Age.

Isn't the 10 yield icon a bit bigger than the 5 yield, though? I always had that impression when seeing a 10 commerce tile.

Nice thread idea - hilarious stuff from Lewwyn.

I feel like this thread needs a memorial entry from the infamous PBEM17 incident where a blackout drunk Krill played a turn for Darrell, messed everything up, and then had no memory of playing said turn. Also, we could probably use a write-up from Ruff and his recent PBEM13 debacle where one player from CFC used the admin password to play a full round and then proceeded to send the 1-turn advanced save on to Ruff rather than the current turn, thus accidentally ratting himself out. lol

Someone who, you know, remembers that episode ought to post about it...

I documented it fairly well in my thread, but I'll copy it here for posterity smile.

So I'm sitting around, minding my own business, hosting an easter egg hunt at my house, when this pops up on my phone:

Quote:Krill:: Shit
you screwd up the MM
and the maintenece is out
Oh boy. Hell hath no fury. So we chat and I'm trying to get to the bottom of what happened, when I come to a realization:

Quote:Darrell: Wait, what maintenance?
Last turn I played the settler finished
Krill: uh, shit?
what's happened?
Darrell: I did not move it, and certainly we haven't settled yet

Gold Ergo Sum has an epiphany:

Quote:Gold Ergo Sum: Krill, did you play the save last night when you drunk chatting with me?
Krill: This is going to sound weird, but I don;t know?
I have a gap of about 6 hours somewhere
Darrell: Oh now that would be funny
Where is the settler
Krill: 69 of capital
Darrell: Hah hah
You played it dude
Krill: fuck

Sure enough:

Quote:Darrell: Lemme chrck the tracker account
Krill: I'm putting hte kettle on. This might take a while
Darrell: d/r.t23
That's the subject line of the email
From you
With the save
Gold Ergo Sum: Yeah, that is definitely what happened. You were totally sloshed last night and stopped making sense. You told me you were thinking of doing something crazy, as I recall, and I was basically instructing you on how to follow the turn. And then you went dark . . .
Darrell: You have to laugh

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell "d/r.t23" means lol.

I think he was trying to type Darrell.
