Werewolf 12: Lurker Thread

I find it funny that the black wolves caught my "wolf slip" of calling the watcher a tracker, but I managed to lynch Mardoc (a villager) based on it.

lol I'm that bad at this game.

But I liked this:

I still say let some villagers throw the first stones, if possible. We already said enough (probably way too much, really) to gain credit. Then block whoever looks to be the most trusted, or do a dice roll.

Perhaps their plan is to kill one of us and then have Tasunke claim to have seen the other one do the deed.

I used the strong words of a failed/stupid gambit to cause this sort of reaction. I think making the wolves lose their calm is a good way of catching them. In the end I was right about Zak trying to point us to the 3 wolf pack setup idea after the announcement. So I wasn't that big of a failure.

Gaspar Wrote:Setup was heavily slanted towards village, but the "grey" announcer play was incredibly poor. It gave us the idea there were mirrored packs WAY before we could have found out otherwise and basically lost you the game right there.
You would have realized this sooner or later; I don't really see what was so catastrophic about making it sooner. Also keep in mind that we could see Commodore was going down at the time. We really needed to open a wider field of suspects, and confirming two packs seemed like a good way of doing that. After the announcement, Commodore did live another day, although it's hard to judge if one actually had any bearing on the other. Our biggest mistake BY FAR (speaking for the black wolves here) was not realizing that everybody had an ability. Once that did dawn on us, I think I made a strong play by preemptively claiming a role, to build credibility for the unavoidable mass claim down the road. I kind of feel that gambit deserved a better fate. smile

You and Lewwyn certainly upped your game in the mid-game, and you really nailed me on my guilty conscience. Well played there. It's a shame you were both hiding behind meta-shields so I couldn't counterattack. tongue It's quite frustrating when you cannot attack the most clued-in villagers because they have indisputable claims. Nevertheless, I was mentally preparing to face off with Lewwyn, throwing a minor rant for him being totally misguided, but in the end I managed to hang myself without his help. smile Still, it could have been a fun showdown.

You mean, you're so bad at the game that you end up with tunnel vision even when you're a wolf? lol

Don't be so hard on yourself, you got yourself night killed which is pretty much "mission accomplished" for a villager.

Yeah, I was just kidding. I don't even think there's much good and bad play in a WW game.

I found this game to be very entetaining from the night 2 forward. Before that I was kind of stressed due to particular things and wasn't able to enjoy it.

The setup was very fun, but too hard on the wolves, like everyone already pointed out. I liked having the 2 pack interaction.

And I was some sort of antagonist to Pindicator during the whole game. Hope everything is alright, mate. It's just the nature of the game.

No hard feelings Ichabod. Yeah, the newbie comments ruffled my feathers some but once I realized you weren't a wolf then I realized that I had just been misunderstanding your posts. Although like Molach I really thought you were a wolf, I just decided to try a different angle when asking questions (which was genuine huh on my part, too) -- and only when I started to really understand what you were saying did I start to think maybe I had tunnel vision. Funny that was what made novice think I was a wolf, too lol

As for another game, I don't know. I certainly did not know what I was signing up for when I said I would join the first one. "Winning" and "Losing" doesn't seem to be the point so much as my competitive self wants it to be, so maybe I should give it another go but with a far more laid back attitude about the whole thing.

Well, you realize everything sooner or later as a village. The key is always to be making it sooner. Everyone has had an ability in all the recent games as well. If you look at it by how the kills went down, we didn't actually see our first duplicate role die until the pindicator death. My point is simply the number one reason village won this game was mirrored packs + everyone with a role. So if you get an extra day or two of confusion, maybe you can kill a couple more clued-in villagers before it gets too late.

It doesn't really matter - I don't actually think this game was winnable for the wolves and I thought both your and novices claims were as expertly done as could be in the situation. There was simply too much other info out there.

Speak for yourself. I've only lost twice and they still bug me. wink

I made this game super easy for the village and put Gaspar in it to patch up his bruised ego. shhh

Btw, thanks to wolves for letting me have a perfect game by killing me at the first opportunity after all of my day 1 reads were correct and before I could get anything wrong tongue Now don't do that again!

It wasn't me, uberfish. smile I really can't believe that the whites risked that, and I can't believe Tasunke didn't watch you. smile

Going back to what I said earlier, this game really would have had a lot of fun psychology going for it if we had just gone with a simpler, open (i.e. known) setup. So much of the discussion revolved around first setup speculation and then role claims. But the fundamental underlying tension of having villagers hunting wolves hunting wolves hunting villagers was really fun. We should definitely try something similar in a future game, incorporating the lessons learned from this one.
