I'll go with the consensus of Agriculture->Crafting->Mining. Calendar only gives you +2 food (+3 if you farm the wine), and greatly delays the other two techs that will actually give you a commerce boost.
I'd send the starting warrior to stand on the ruins to the south. Lizardmen are a pain, and really mess with your workers.
There's a good chance that the clearing to the SW contains an unseen resource (horse, copper, mithril, etc.). If the forest grows over the top of it at some point, then I was wrong.
