I won't have time to check this in the morning, so I won't be back until about 1500 GMT.

You guys choose between Maya, Sumeria and Egypt. Willem is a given.

Maya: Myst/Mining, Colosseum UB gives +3 happy total (base Colosseum gives +1 happy), UU is spear that doesn't need copper.

Sumeria, Agri/Wheel, UB is 90 hammer court house available at Priesthood, not Code of Laws (think 60 turns earlier), UU is 6 strength axe that has +25% against melee, not +50% like a standard axe.

Egypt, Agri/Wheel, UB is a monument replacement that allows +2 priests, which basically means it's easy to make a shrine and that's about it, and a 5 strength chariot replacement on a standard size map with 5 players.

No experience but of the lot verging towards,
1. Egypt (good techs, okay UB, best UU)
...slight drop off...
2. Maya (okay techs, good UB, good UU)
...significant drop off...
3. Sumeria (good techs, okay UB, okay UU)

Not a definite vote, will sway relatively easily.

Willem of Sumeria. PBEM29's prince/toroid setup and the field of bad leaders in that game probably has made me overrate the power of early zigs, but I think the earlier maintenance reduction will help even if we don't outright spam the zigs. Plus we'll have an early lead in EPs which should roll on for quite a while. And then there's useful starting techs. I know the UU doesn't scare anyone, but among Maya, Sumeria, and Egypt I think only WCs really inspire fear anyway. So...lots of cottages, enough maintenance reduction to keep growing wide, and the leader isn't Mao. thumbsup

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Willem of Maya. You aren't the only one who can manage hard whips Krill. wink

I would be fine if I get outvoted since I think the other civs also have strong advantages.

Oh man I finally get to play a game on here with CRE!!

Judging from picture file name ( zig.jpg ) I'd hazard a guess it's Sumerian wink

Indeed, it is a ziggurat. (at least according to wikipedia)

My vote is for Willem of Sumeria too.

I don't think we can pick Maya as their starting techs are gash.

I like Egypt - the WC is a great unit being cheap and strong. It has relevance for a long time. The UU is ok but only has 1 use as krill mentioned. The starting techs are good.

Sumeria is better though IMO as the reduced cost courthouse replacement coming earlier mixed with CRE borders means we can settle fairly agressively and secure a decent chunk of land without going bust. Starting techs are good. UU is mediocre but I don't think that is a problem.

EDIT - and I vote for using ironstar's post for our selection in the main thread. lol
