PBEM5o: Tatan doesn't get protective Skirmishers!

Founded Hinduism in my second city. He founded Buddhism a few turns ago, though, so I suspect he is making a run at the Oracle. Doesn't bode well for my potential run at the Oracle.

Why do all my games end up with me regretting my opening and wishing I could go back and change how I played? bang

Seriously, though, I hope AT's not doing any advanced micro. Cause I'm sure not!

Also, a problem. AT found me on turn 12 with his warrior, and it is probably safe to assume that he travelled in a straight line. So basically I'm looking at a 13-14 turn transit it time with one-move units. And since we're playing on quick speed and I'm pretty sure AT's watching the soldier count, that gives him enough time for 2 whips per city between the time I build a vulture and the time it arrives in his land. So my rushing odds are not looking good.

AND YET I STILL REALLY WANT TO.

Hey, will you look at that, the lands repeating. Scouting vulture shall now head straight SW, and maybe I can get lucky and interfere with AT's copper.

Hark!

PREVIOUSLY ON "PBEM4 GREENS PRESENTS: THE ADVENTURES OF AXE-MAN Wrote:Axe-Man must now only assimilate with the Chinese, and become unnoticeable, primarily by speaking aloud phrases such as "Man, our glorious leader TT is mighty swell, and not at all the puppet of a technologically advanced dictator!" and "Gee, I SURE AM Chinese, huh? Wowzers!".

It has been many years. So many, in fact, that Axe-Man now finds himself somewhere in the wilderness 2500 years in the past! Utilizing the power of his feet, he has gone "walking", a handy power that enables him to move about over the course of time! It seems he has escaped his Chinese pursuers... for now! But what's this???

Ah! Locals! Perhaps they are familiar with the whereabouts of the Mayan empire! Axe-Man resolves to walk over and ask them.

I finally decided to build the Oracle, since I didn't want AT to sandbag it and Tiki Village oozes with production. Current ETA is 3 turns, more or less, but I'd honestly be pretty surprised if I got it.

Wow, I really thought AT was going for the Oracle, but he wasn't, so... I ended up completing it and bulbing Currency! I probably could (and should) have set up a better bulb, but this is still good.

Current Demographics:

This is deceptive, unfortunately... on your average turn AT is usually ahead in GNP, and he has had a fairly big lead in Food and Pop for quite some time (since I've been a lot harder on the whip than him). I pretty consistently have a slight edge in Production and Soldier Count, though.

Top cities. As I said, I've been a lot harder on the whip than him, as my second and third cities are still tiny little things despite both being founded before his second and third cities. Right now, he's beating me in the city count I think, but I don't have the wherewithal to check.

I hope to change that soon:

Super aggro city plants FTW! I think I've made him backpedal a little bit with my vultures, so I'm trying to gain a land edge before he pushes back.

Also, something worth noting about AT. He has used the whip much less than me throughout this game, playing a more conservative growth strat. In fact, seeing as he is Spi, I wouldn't be surprised if he went for a Caste-based spec strategy. I'm going to try to abuse this by going the complete opposite direction. Right now, I am massing vultures and spears in between occasional worker and settler builds, so that when Construction comes in, I can whip out a mass of catapults and rush AT's horse city. If he sees this coming and/or gets Construction quickly, I'm probably screwed, but the fact of the matter is that he will probably win at the long term builder game unless I do something dramatic anyway. nod

A slightly outdated picture of the "left" front (it's to my west, but the mini-map says it's in the east, so I have no idea what to call it crazyeye):

And another slightly outdated picture of my core:

(Quite snickering! It's not *that* bad!)

(I mean, unless you compare it to AT's core at all)

Annnd a less obsolete picture of the rightward front:

AT showed up at just the wrong time with that stack, as I was planning on sending the entire garrison of Ruins NE to go surprise attack AT's horse city. So I'm hoping he moves NW onto the rice, where I can use my workers to 1-turn a road, kill his units, and move in on Labyrinth.

I love the way one can trap in duel games; got to play one myself sometime.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.
