I tend to agree. Rep is more beneficial (since you need to make up beakers). NE gets you quicker GP which would do what? Bulbs by this time aren't as good as early bulbs when it really matters.

I think if we had a HE eligible unit, it'd be a different story. Without one, the NE payoff isn't as large as the free beakers, even if we don't run anything other than merc specialists its essentially getting UofSankore again without having to invest hammers in it. It does require the diversion to Constitution which is an otherwise non-essential tech but:
  • We're going to want Democracy soonish anyway for SoL and the USuff option.
  • Jails actually aren't a terrible build for us given Commodore's EP lead and spies being on.
  • We need Const for Corporation which is needed for Assembly Line.

Still, most of that stuff is future whereas stuff like Engineering and HBR do stuff for us in the here and now. So there's definitely a decision to be made. But it just seems like now is the time if we're going to go Mercantilism shortly.

Anyway, next few turns need to be about getting units built first and foremost after the Economics diversion.

And here's what davy did to beat us to the Pyramids - his settling order.

That's six roads from the city on the Stone to the river. And of course he needed Fishing for the river trade route. Much farther than Commodore to be sure, but the city also wasn't in anyone's face.

Hehe. Didn't you guys get the memo that the 4th city is supposed to be in a random location on the map?

The wars in the West continue to go about as well as we can hope:

Here's that on the map:

Mist pillaged Commodore's Iron and he's still trading his spare to Dave, so no Iron for him atm. Regardless, I'm fully expecting bloody slugfest. dance

The F1 tells the story of the turn as well as anything yet again.

The 2 cities which completed builds completed CKNs. Here's the current F5.

Expect ~another 14 CKNs before we finish Constitution and leave Theocracy. So roughly 23 in total. When we have 23 Cho-Ko-Nus, where shall we put them, HO HO HO? wink

Mist offered us the slightly lopsided Incense for Gems trade this turn. Since we've plenty of happy and are trying to curry favor with them, we took it. After we finish these military builds and tech Constitution, we'll swap to Representation/Bureaucracy/Slavery/Mercantilism/OR and get Universities and Oxford done. After that, time will tell. We did the math and were able to tech HBR @20% this turn to avail ourselves Knights. I don't expect we'll build a ton but they should be effective as a 2nd force behind the CKN hail of arrows for mop-up. Almost assuredly we'll tech Engineering after Constitution followed by Aesthetics and Literature before heading on towards Rifling. All of this in the air of course, but that's the current train of thought. We're hoping the Mist/Commodore war buys us some time for that.

Speaking of the Mist/Commodore war...

lol lol lol

Yuri still has his billion Horse Archers in Samsun. No idea what the plan is there, but they really don't make good city defenders.

Here's the demos. Note that comparison with last turns demos tells us Commodore whipped ~10% of his CY away. Ouch.

Any plans to bring along ~2-3 CG2 longbows (to keep your CKNs from having to defend in captured cities) and ~1-2 sentry chariots (so you can see the battlefield better)?

We hadn't discussed LBs, though that's certainly a good idea if we're intending to keep cities. We'll probably bring spies along rather than sentry chariots, but we haven't really gotten to the tactical yet.

Maybe I'm missing something - but I'm not convinced this question has an obvious answer. Care to elaborate?
