I don't know, am I the only one who thought this was really funny? lol

I didn't even notice it. It actually is funny.

the map of Yuri's land makes me sad. I know he had a lot of forest to clear, but there is so much unworked grassland - no farms, cottages, workshops, even roads frown.

Ahh, thanks for explaining.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

We played turn 127.

Very eventful turn, but most of it is bad news.  Still, it's nothing too terrible and nothing that we're really surprised about, or could have done anything about last turn.

Commodore showed up with Scientific Method this turn, which is no surprise really (although Gaspar was very convinced that he would tech Steel first).  We don't really think we can compete for Communism, so we teched Drama this turn.  This is the delayed cost of missing Liberalism - what we missed is Communism, really.  Of course if Commodore mucks around and puts it off we might go for it still.  But I can't imagine him researching SM for any reason other than to get Communism.  It does obsolete the ToA for him after all. lol

I did a scan of Commodore's territory and found his Oil, or at least one of them.  It's rather dangerously close to davy's border, but that doesn't really matter since they are BFFs until the next life.  Shame that's a new cottage and he doesn't have to bulldoze a town to get it hooked.  You can also see Commodore's big stack in Kusari now, and the Spy is also on three Knights, one of which is a largely unpromoted GG (he did take Morale).  I guess he really doesn't like settling GGs.  Suit yourself, I'll take our seven exp rifles which we can now build in one turn in Caldeum.

davy adopts Theocracy, which might be bad news for Mist which is bad news for us.  Still, he's not remotely close to rifles right now and doesn't have Gunpowder yet.  He also popped a GA probably with that Prophet that he had lying in his capital that we saw quite a few turns ago and neglected to mention.  He also had two Scientists, one of which he used to bulb Education.  I assume he's hung onto the other one, although I would have bulbed Printing Press with it by now (even if he has only seven villages and towns).

Spy discovered, which must be Commodore whom we don't have OB with.  yuris is obviously not spending hammers on spies right now.  Commodore also got a Merchant (duplicate with an earlier one), which is great news for us because it means he can't pop a GA until he gets the Communism Spy.  And that means he won't be infiltrating us with said Spy.  I assume he'll stroll the Merchant into davy's capital for some cash, netting a nice payout because his capital is size 16 unlike our crapital. lol

And over in the warzone, you see me pretending to be Ulysses S. Grant.  We moved the Knight behind Edirne this turn, which cuts off the reinforcement Longbow. thumbsup I assume he will dry whip Edirne this turn, so we'll be facing a total of nine Longbows and a Warrior.  I'll probably do some simulations to see how we'll likely fare before deciding to attack or not.  The other force should be able to take Gaziantep, with the two Knights still healing in Stonefort catching up next turn as the slow movers get next to the city.  Commodore also renamed his Chariot the Chariot News Network, so we renamed our Chariot C-SPAN.  I'm not sure if Mist will get it or not.

Next turn we'll found San Antonio Rakkis Crossing, which will contain the site of the Alamo.  The missionary will spread Judaism immediately.  We've constructed a Bank and Market in Cathedral to make our decision to build the Shrine slightly less foolish. neenerneener

And finally, the Sistine Chapel in action, also known as Operation Pinkify the Pink Dot:

The unfortunate side effect of Sistine is huge GNP inflation, but we'll just have to live with that.  Oh and the huge MFG is davy, who must have fired his specialists for miners to build Universities.  Not sure why he didn't wait on the swap out of OR.

How does sistine chapel affect inflation? I've never understood how inflation was calculated, anyway.

GNP inflation is not inflation. I just mean that our GNP is increased by a huge amount without increasing our research ability. GNP is typically used to gauge research ability.

Inflation just goes up at a steady rate over the course of the game.

Yeah, Culture counts for GNP, but it's fake GNP, as it doesn't get turned into more useful things like techs or gold.
