Thought does not transfer to video. There's a major philosophical schism, right there .
More pragmatically, we see the standard problem with all videos: They don't scale. Not to the amount of time the viewer is prepared to spend watching. Nor to the prior knowledge of the viewer. While that is also true of text and pictures, those are much easier to scan or ponder. The best one can do in a single video is try and cater to the modal (average) audience. Something that becomes tougher to balance as the complexity of the topic under discussion increases.
I've played t82 and t83 but I'm not telling you what I did yet. I want you to guess.
When we left off, I had a wave of triremes heading towards scooter, the opportunity to kill a pindicator worker + axe, and the looming threat of Dazed's increasing power. t82 is the turn all these things required decisions!
Pindicator front:
That's an axe guarding a worker (which just finished chopping the jungle, hence why this is the turn of opportunity), with a spear and archer in the city.
Scooter front:
He pulled back a tile in the north in reaction to me completing a trireme in Merchant Ship.
... and he pulled back in the south in response to me bringing 3 triremes in range. I can finally get some vision and it reveals that he probably has no other military in the area.
Yuri front:
Not much going on. Lots of undefended workers.
Dazed front:
He still has 3 galleys in that city. A bit disconcerting.
And yeah, this goes beyond disconcerting and directly to "there's his stack". 2t away from my city he has 6 HA and 5 chariots. 3t away are 2 HA and 2 Vultures. 4t away there are another vulture and spear.
Finally, some info about my current situation.
I'm in these civics. I can switch this turn. I can't next turn though because it's the one turn I won't be in golden age. If I swap out of OR this turn, I will have to chop the forest preserve at the capital if I want to not delay Taj.
I can 1t pretty much any tech for the next couple of turns. If I end the turn in caste I will finish a great scientist this turn (the one who's supposed to bulb liberalism). If I don't, he will take 1t extra and have a slight chance of coming out a merchant instead. (And my next scientists, for bulbing PP and Astronomy, will be significantly delayed.)
Oh and I'm 6xp away from a great general.
Please provide thoughts on what you would do. I will answer any questions about the situation you might have. There's no need for spoiler tags. I'm not planning to update until I get some discussion.
a) You entered world war and razed couple of scooter's triremes in the north and pindicator's axe, birthed a great general, which will lead your troops and stop dazed's aggression.
b) You decided to play peacefully and left scooter and pindicator alone and focus on your opponents one by one.
Personally I probably would have picked the second option, but my guess is that you calculated that being aggressive will get your GG without significant losses and that will make your life easier with dazed.
Regarding your video, I did watch it since I have enjoyed your analysis. If you discuss the usefulness of forges with terms such as "time value of hammers" and "opportunity cost" (in the same sentence) you get my attention Typically I would never watch a 52-min Civ4 turn report regardless who made it, but since I am on a vacation..
I guess that you would not go through all your cities in future videos since they are now introduced and I will definitely check your videos especially if they include more advanced game mechanics tips (such as the Taj trick) and strategy discussion.
So, guys, is Seven being a jerk or a dick? What's the difference?
Jerk, for signing up as a ringer in the first place. His current aggression isn't really dickish, however, just might as well aggressively attack the world at this point, unless he wants to try and sandbag to Railroad or or something.
But then again, the ideal NoSpace/Krill/Seven/Macki game just keeps on not happening, so might as well just continue on like this.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
Krill Wrote:Also, I take it that you are could finish Lib on T84, take Mil Trad on T85 and then finish gunpowder at eot T85 as well?
Couple things here.
1) If I switch out of caste this turn I won't have the scientist to bulb liberalism until a turn later.
2) Gunpowder is a 2t tech at 100% (which I do have the reserves for); it might take research builds to get this down to 1t (depending on how much cheaper compass and lib are than my output) and I have not fully investigated this possibility.
3) I will still need HBR for Cuirassiers. (Not everyone builds horse archers all the time. )
I'm going with neither jerk nor dick - he's trying to press everyone to end the game sooner so they don't waste time on a game that's been over since well... before it started. So think of him more as a philanthropist.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
