Turn 200 Report!

It's been a while since we did a large overview, and since we are now at turn 200 I figured this would be a good time to jump in and do exactly that!

Mainland:

Western Continent:

Southern Islands:

Hard to believe that 10 turns ago was the start of the war!

As Rego mentioned, he did a slight goof this turn, but I don't think it's going to be a problem. We had 2 knights on Apathy Island at the start of the turn (was trying to think of an antonym for 'inferno') - and Yuri's city of Meinhoff had only 1 longbow inside. He moved the sword from Redstone onto the desert tile between our knights and Meinhoff and whipped Meinhoff. Rego killed the sword easy, and then saw we had 70% odds on killing the longbow with our last knight. We knew there would only be another longbow (or pike - thank you nakor rolleye) next turn so we took the chance and won! The RNG broke our way!

Then Rego unloaded the 6 knights beside Redstone - with 2 longbows for defense we should be able to capture it next turn. His "goof" was that he pulled the knight that had killed the sword back to the stack of 6. Now Yuri can kill the knight inside Meinhoff (renamed to "Im on a Boat") and retake the city because he has engineering. But if he does that we should be fine - his troops will be scattered and we'll easily retake both cities. The knight would be a loss, but not the end of the world.

Another thing I was looking at was where to put Oxford. More Cowbell wins out - it is already developed with mature cottages, and we can even pave over workshops later on if we choose to. It has 10 cottages now, and we can always turn 3 workshops into future cottages after it builds Oxford. I know river-less cottages aren't optimal, but i would think specializing your science city wins out.

Initial Take on our 7 cities for Oxford:

More Cowbell
OTOF
Nat X
Coneheads
Church Lady
Matt Foley
Superfans

We could also add Celebrity Jeopardy to the list - it may be able to build the uni faster than Superfans would be able to get it up. The problem is typical: the cities we have that can build it fast don't have a ton of beakers to be a benefit from a uni. So I tried to find the cities that were contributing some beakers while also being high in the mfg lines of things.

Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I can see the Western Continent image if you mean that.

I think we have figured out a great way to get lurker posts - pretend to put images up and then have lurkers post about how they're not showing up.

Now play your turn Nakor!!!

Wow those images show how much you've totally dismantled Yuri. That's brutal.

Yeah everything on the "western continent" image except the city of Hanukkah Song (our Heroic Epic site) was Yuri's, and we're (hopefully) soon to take over Apathy and Inferno Islands (Hans and Franz forever!!!)

Where do you think this puts you (overall, game-wise)?
Do you think you're in a better or worse position then Krill, Scooter etc.

Right now, I think we're even with Nakor. Probably #4 overall (behind Krill, Scooter, Nakor) until we get the western continent out of revolt and developed with lots of worker turns, but once we do that I think that will put us up to #3.

Top spot goes to Krill. Scooter is kicking everyone's behind in GNP and tech, but Krill has the huge land and city lead. Plus with tech brokering on it a large GNP not matter so much. For that purpose, Scooter is probably the 1B to Krill's 1A - if he can turn a superior technology advantage into a military one then he could expand and put himself in position to take the top spot.

Bad news for us: we are a softer target than Krill for doing exactly that. If I was scooter, I would be looking at this war with Yuri and drooling over the idea of taking over the western continent with amphibious rifles and galleons. Maybe even zerkers if we don't get enough garrison troops on the shoreline towns.

Edit: Nakor could be a possible expansion route, but if I was scooter I would go east for geopolitical reasons. If he attacks Nakor he is inviting attack from Krill - or possibly poaching most of Nakor's developed cities. If he attacks us then Krill may poach our mainland cities, but scooter could still stand to outgain him.
