If we're doing the quick gems hookup we don't have time for Sailing first. If we're waiting 10 turns for the monument to expand borders, we probably do have time. But in that case I'd be tempted to grab Calendar as well before Iron Working.
I have to run.

With Sailing we could build Lighthouses, and we could settle the wheat island.

I haven't looked at the details, but it seems like it lines up pretty well to settle the gems and a southern city and then tech Sailing and settle the wheat island / landmass

I'd ask for actual sims instead of broad talk, but I guess there's not much point in discussing it yet anyway. We don't even know if we will land oracle, and our micro is set for the coming turns regardless.

Agree. If we land the Oracle, then IW > Sailing > Calendar looks like a good tech path, but what if we don't get the Oracle? Should we go for Currency still, or do IW first?
I think that's the most important contingency planning we can do right now.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width

This is the perfect time to have broad talk, with our micro set for the next five turns. It's good for the democracy to let people chime in with loose ideas - then we can sim out what works and what doesn't. Maybe some of the discussion belongs in another thread, but whatever.

Definitely not currency. Iron Working, Sailing, and Calendar are all better techs for us.

Late night thought: how much is all that initial jungle in bananagem hurting the health?

The health effect is negligible unless we are spamming MP under Monarchy. We are EXP and have corn, fish, deer all hooked up. We can easily hook up the pig. And we'll probably have the cow hooked up when roading to the city or can hook it up soon after.
But if you want real numbers we should have -3 unhealth from jungle at founding, with at least 7 health to start, +1 with granary, +1 with cow, +1 with pig, +1 with clam soon after. The jungle unhealth will quickly go down to -2.
