So, yeah. I've taken a few months off since my Pyrrhic victory in PBEM38 left an incredibly sour taste in my mouth towards Civ4, multiplayer games and RB in general but I'm mostly over that now and miss having a save in my inbox regularly. As the thread title indicates, I'm aware a few others are looking to start games but I have a fairly specific setup I'm looking for and if there isn't enough interest then no big deal. Rather than ramble on, here's what I'd like:
4-5 players of a similar skill level (I.E. I don't want to get my teeth kicked in by the top 5 players on the site nor do I want to noob bash - I reserve the right to reject players based on this - if this makes you think I'm an ass, I'm ok with that, but I'm interested in a competitive game not winning any "RB'er of the Year" awards)
4-5 players who can vouch for their ability to play at least one turn almost everyday, and more than one turn on some days (Different category, but I'm not looking for a game where someone who is a noted non-turnplayer and/or game quitter can rehabilitate their reputation. Again, sorry for being a dick but FFH17 was a painful lesson to me in ignoring that different people have different expectations when it comes to regular turnplaying.)
In terms of the game itself:
Regular snake pick, either no or few bans. I think my last 3-4 games have had one restriction or another placed on them, at this point Pacal of India would actually be variety for me. I'm open on what specifically we restrict or not, but I'd prefer lighter to heavier.
Always War, absolutely no diplo of any kind.
Ban Spies, Nukes, War Elephants. That's probably all I'd like to see banned.
I'm pretty open on the map though I would prefer something at least hand-edited if not hand-drawn. Prefer to keep other map-related settings to the discretion of the mapmaker. Certainly I'd prefer not worrying about getting Mortiused but beyond that, pretty malleable.
Note - game settings with exception of diplo I'm very willing to debate, while the player-specific requests are not.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff but that's the base expectation. I fully expect to get slaughtered since I've not so much as opened Civ4 in a couple months and haven't even read any of the gamethreads around here in a while, but I miss messing around with the game. I intend to take a fairly casual approach to the game but I don't mind if opponents are knee-deep in spreadsheets, like I said, I have no expectations beyond fairly regular turnplaying and keeping a thread of some sort. Anyway, if you're interested, you know what to do...
I'm not sure yet if I want to join a game solo, but I wouldn't mind being a ded lurker/teammate to someone who's interested. Aside from player skill level (If you want to join but may not be good enough for the game solo I'd be happy to team up with you for balance, but I don't mind about my partner's skill level otherwise) I have basically the same criteria as Gasper.
Not signing up, just wanted to chip in that you're not an ass in the least for clearly stating your preferences about skill and pace. Being straight forward about that is a very good approach IMO.
if it wasn't because i had signed up for the team duel, and had a pseudo-26 starting somewhere near the end of the month, i'd certainly join up ... but ... if someone needs a sounding board and a secondary player i'm fresh

Sounds good, thanks.

Thanks - I understand the counter argument as well, but at the end of the day from my experience the crucial part of setting a game up is ensuring everyone has the same expectations. Rarely manage to get that right, truth be told.

Appreciate the interest. I'm not expecting this to fill quickly, not least because of the festive period and several similar intentioned games posted recently. I'm in no rush personally, so I'll leave this open until it fills or falls off the first page, whichever comes first.
Oh man if I had time for another game I would be entirely up for this (pretty sure if I were proposing a game myself the setup post would have been eerily similar) but I'm afraid I don't at the moment.

Gaspar, I also think you're right to state skill preferences. Careful not to underestimate yourself though.
I'm interested in playing, and I have an offer if you think I'm too good or whatever. I'll play with whatever leader and civ you pick for me. It's no problem if you decline.
