No, it's the second coming of Jesus City (aka Fish+Corn).

This is a great baseline plan to work off of. thumbsup I did not think we would be able to get to Currency that quickly (which I agree should be our next major tech). We're looking at Currency eot 93 and our tenth city to be settled around T93 or T94. That's only 15 turns in the future; I think it will be very difficult for most other teams to keep pace.

While I'm sure we'll make further tweaks and alterations, this looks like a great starting point. Thanks.

Nice plan novice! Can you or someone else explain a bit more about that avoid growth business in ST?

Every surplus food produced in a city is put into its granary. The granary has a capacity of half the food box. So the reason the rule of thumb says to complete the granary before the food box is half full, is that the rest of the food produced while growing the city will be sufficient to fill up the granary. So it's not really every other food produced being put into the granary, although this is often a useful abstraction.

You can stretch the "half full" deadline for completing the granary, since overflow food is also added to the granary before the growth is calculated. So if a city has +6 food and completes its granary with 17/24 food in the box, it will produce +6 food for the next two turns bringing the food box to 23/24 and 29/24 food, and this will be enough to fill up the granary completely.

The avoid growth trick is just an extension of the above - in our case our city will complete the granary with 18/24 food in the box, and it has +6 food so it reaches 24/24 food the next turn. By enabling the "avoid growth" option, the city does NOT grow however, but remains size 2 with 24/24 in the box. This means that next turn, with "avoid growth" disabled again, the city will add +6 food to 30/24, and will grow to size 3 with a full granary. The end result is the city ending up at size 3 with 18/26 food in the box (6 overflow food from the 30/24 food box, and 12 food from the full granary). If we had not enabled "avoid growth", the city would have grown on T-1, having 24/24 food, and end up at 6/26 food (0 overflow and 6 food from the granary). On T0 it would have 12/26 food, and be 6 food behind compared to our plan. In effect, the avoid growth trick gives us another turn of our +6 food surplus counting double.

Thanks it makes sense. You'd have to discount the food produced by having one extra pop a turn earlier right? In this case we are ahead no matter what.

Correct.

Wouldn't the food be 23/24 at avoid growth though? It's still stronger, but I don't recall having it being stuck at 24/24 a possibility.

You can have 24/24.

No it stays at 24/24. If you would normally end up at e.g. 25/24 you can still use avoid growth and it will be capped to 24/24 I think. But that quickly gives diminishing returns.

In our case, we're slowing growth by not working max food as well as using avoid growth. That lets us end up at 18/26 food at size 3. To see whether or not this is a good idea, we should compare it to just working max food all the way, which completes the granary as we grow to size 3. In that case, we would be at 12/26 food.

You can test out the mechanics yourselves, just open this sandbox save:

All right, thanks for the explanation. I got the gist of what you were saying, just wondering whether it'll head to 23/24 or 24/24 instead.
