I don't disagree on anything you just said. My effort to placate CFC is simply because I schedule them third of our four neighbors (behind Team PYFT and WPC) for conquest. I want to keep them happy and fat until we twist the knife in them and take over their territory.

in terms of conquest targets i would schedule them second, after Germans (given if they stay alive till that point) ... while neither the strongest or the weakest team, other than Germans they're certainly the most annoying ...

Good discussion here. Hm. I've pretty much come around on the idea we need to try for pink. The tactical disadvantage by not doing so is really convincing to me. What I'm not crazy about is letting them know about our plans for it after we've settled. I get the risk that it may turn into a race, but I don't like that extreme. It's too much downside for not enough gain.

I think we need to tell them we plan to settle there, but not until our settler is on the move, which would mean it's too late for them to whip a settler and still get there in time.

Obviously yes, I think we should absolutely be ready & willing to offer to gift the stone to CFC indefinitely. I don't think there's any objections to this, and it's an easy way to diffuse things.

We do need to be aware that we ARE taking a non-trivial risk by settling this spot. I don't actually have a huge problem with that, but if for some reason this does backfire and they break the NAP or something... Well, we just need to understand that's a small possibility. Anyone in favor of settling pink dot needs to be ok with that risk. I think I could talk them down, but when human emotions/reactions get involved, all bets are off.

Agreed completely, the situation has changed significantly.

what's missing from the posts on the pink dot subject is that CFC indicated to us that they were a "few" turns from setting the oasis/stone. that was some 30 turns ago!!!!!!!
I believe we can use that offense as a means of getting the pink site we want.

something on the order of:

Dear CFC,
RB is concerned that 30t ago you said you were a few turns away from setting the oasis, but have not yet settled.
While this delay tactic may not have been intentional, we now intend to settle the oasis ourselves and want to re-affirm our existing border agreement in that region.
We will not settle past the oasis as per our earlier agreement.
Based on our dotmap - we anticipate you will not be able to claim the stone in that area - we are prepared to gift it to you if needed.
We believe that borders established at the narrow part of the land bridge will be more natural and strategically secure for both of our nations.

either that OR:

We intend to settle the oasis and want to re-affirm our existing border agreement in that region.
We will not settle past the oasis as per our earlier agreement.

(we omit any mention they gave us coordinates for a city that would invalidate pink dot)

i would say we send either message 1t before setting ourselves.

I would rather not call it a "border agreement." We agreed not to settle past the oasis for the duration of the NAP. That's about it.

Agree with Sullla's, Scooter's points - or rather they agree with me from 10t back smile

It's unclear to me without digging through spreadsheets - if we go ahead with the plan to settle pink, can you guys tell me what turn it would get settled?

T97 if we can pre-road the tile 1S of the oasis, T98 otherwise.

As far as I can see from the micro plan, we can even have a war chariot at Pink Dot around T98, in the unlikely event CFC gets ideas.

I'm pretty sure we're going to road the city tile before settling the city. So it will be t97.
