Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

RB Wrote:Caledorn,

Pass on your thanks to your team for connecting our borders! We're all very happy that we've got full routes with your team now.

Our team has taken the T100 milestone to step back and try to identify how we want to play going forward. We really would like to identify one neighbor who we can trust as a solid ally longterm, and there's a strong consensus on our team that your team is our preference. We're happy with our borders and agreements, and communication beween us has always been excellent. Our current NAP is set to be through T130. That works really nicely, but we'd like to consider extending it longterm - perhaps T175. I think this would give us both a lot of flexibility in dealing with other neighbors if we can both bank on a safe, demilitarized border for a long time. We're also certainly not married to the T175 date if you prefer longer or shorter. We'd love to include some sort of "priority resource trading" agreement too - where we would give you priority over other civs in trading for our excess resources and vice versa.

Feel free to take your time thinking about this. There's no pressure here at all since our NAP still has 30T remaining. This is certainly not a "take it or leave it" offer, we're just trying to initiate talks here. Poke me on chat whenever if you have any questions. smile

Thanks,
scooter - Team RB

Same as my draft, except I changed the ". I think" to a ", and"

I doubt it's conscious stalling by CivPlayers. Real stalling would involve raising small details over and over again, always making references to get input from the teammates, and so on. That said, I really doubt they as a team care much about diplo.

Perhaps. Or, they want to stall with less effort. I am not encouraged by this development. This doesn't tell us anything new, but does absolutely nothing to allay the concerns we are feeling toward this team. Should we comment something to the effect of "We've noticed a lot of whips lately from your team, should we be concerned?"

Teched hbr. Many whips. Nothing of substance in diplo ever. Refuses to respond to reasonable offers.

The only reason we have a 10t rolling nap is that we could've burned a city at first contact.

They're stalling us until they prove otherwise.

I'm not sure what to say to UniversCiv. I'd like to give them until tomorrow to respond - we've sent a couple messages in a row and sending yet another contradicting ourselves again looks really sloppy and disorganized. Might as well ride it out and see what they say.

Chatted with someone from CFC while logged into the game. The chat is a little disjointed, since I mistakenly started with "Chat to all", and is missing their opening "What's up neighbours" and some closing pleasentries:

So, they're about to get another city somewhere else, and will send a formal message to us about their city on the isthmus that we should respond to quickly.

Map for reference:

Legal city locations are:

1NE of stone
2E of stone
1E of hill (current settler location)
1SE of hill

I assume that you didn't actually mean east in the chat. And the settler in the screenshot isn't actually 1E of the desert hill?

Yeah, wrote wrong there. I think the settler has done all its moves, and will found a city next turn, but I can't be sure.

Caledorn just informed me via chat that we should be getting an email from them within an hour or so. He's hoping I'll be around when they send it (I should be) so I can give some initial feedback. This lines up with kjn's comments that they're looking for a quick response. So be ready I guess.

Sounds kind of ominous.
