Ok. So the first half of this turn was rough - first bad half turn of the war. Commodore burned us out of the fog with a pair of axes (lucky for him that for our last 2 builds we went impi-axe rather than axe-impi). Then IHOP got burned. That was actually pretty fortunate, as replacing IHOP is probably easier than building a new palace (and it's kind of a junk city pre-IW), so I'm actually pretty OK with that. But it's still a bummer. Then we logged in to see this.
Urgh! He attacked out. Our chariot won which is well and nice, but the axe attacked our CR axe that was fully healthy. It was a straight 50% battle and he won flawlessly. We also had a brief panic attack freaking over if he got iron or copper from somewhere. As best as we can tell, he isn't. Best guess is he ferried it over from an island or something. We countered by nailing the axe with a wounded shock chariot:
Win. And... OH HELLO THERE.
Oh yes. And that's just 1 archer on defense. This is happening, kids. Let's suicide the chariot first to make sure we weaken the archer enough to make it worth the risk:
Dropped him to 2.0/3 health. Perfect. Let's do this!
Nice perk here - by saving the last promotion we get to use it to heal AND we stay right within the strength ratio where it's still 2XP (and more importantly 2 GG points). Anyways, we win flawlessly so the healing barely even matters:
Quick glance inside:
Well hey, I'll take the granary. Especially in a foodless city, heh.
We had one bad break. Whenever possible, Pindicator and I (and sometimes Noble like tonight) will try to play through the turn live via chat - or at least these critical war turns. Anyways, I thought I was replying in gchat, and did not realize I still had the game selected (I use windowed mode at lower resolution so it doesn't take up the full screen). Anyways, I told a galley to auto-explore
. Oops! Not a huge deal, but it still is unfortunate. We did find another Trireme:
So we're just going to advance by land and stack up all the galleys and dare him to slam into them. He'll kill a galley for sure, but we'll have a decent chance to counter-attack. Inside CC he's got 2 archers and an axe (behind walls), so that city will not be trivial to capture. It's ok though, time is mostly on our side here.
We did offer a peace deal to India:
Would be surprised if they take it, but it's worth a shot. Those are their two island cities. Here they are:
We used our worker down there to scout Clam City from across the water. We have a galley looping around the south, and we should be able to load up a chariot and boat this thing out of the fog. FG will be a little harder because we have no idea where any Triremes might be, and he'll see us coming from an hour away. We'll see.
Let's take a step back and look at our 4 city empire. I renamed all the cities:
I loved the Sid's Sushi idea, so of course I picked that. Dairy Queen down in snowland makes sense right? Look at our finances. We're bleeding some serious gold. Of course, this is because all 4 of our cities are in revolt and therefore producing nothing. Wait. This is probably doing amaaaazing things to our GNP right?
YESSSSS. Best demo screenshot ever. I've never seen ANYTHING like that -27 GNP before. Beautiful. I especially like that -48 trade route number
. Everyone is getting juicy IC routes to us, but we can't get any with all our cities still in revolt. So we have a nice solution to this:
Get a revolt out of the way now while we would be otherwise just lighting $28 on fire. Rough turn to start where a lot of things went wrong, but all things considered, I think we salvaged it.
(also, poor CFCJester is going to be SO confused when he sees on Civstats we captured the horse city
)
