Disregarding that spoiler, I'd say the day 1 policy lynch should be Uberfish or Mattimeo. They strike me as the most analytical minds, which makes them more dangerous as scum here.

I'm not sure how humourous it really is. It could be incredibly useful, rules as written.

A correct scan would be either: "This person is innocent" or "This person is not playing."
A paranoid or naive would always return their standard results.
An incorrect scan is more ambiguous, but might conceivably be for "This player is guilty".

If a scan result comes back, it gives some *very* valuable information, allowing you to eliminate multiple options as to what you are.

Of course the correct GM response is just to say "This is a non-valid night action and returns no result". But a meta-thinking player might well be tempted to roll the dice.

Just return the undead result, I say. smile

I think the mafia should be a bad cop, and then you have a "five little piggies" theme.

Good Cop (This little piggie went to market)
Insane Cop (This little piggie stayed home)
Naive Cop (This little piggie had roast beef)
Paranoid Cop (This little piggie had none)
Bad Cop (This little piggie went "wee wee wee" all the way to the slammer)

yeah I'm not going to give him extra information to his sanity by giving a guilty/innocent result. I sent him a pm that said "here are you 4 options" then changed my mind and sent another saying "well you can scan whoever you want, I guess."

But if he doesnt send me a participating player by the time night phase ends he will get a "your investigation yielded no results" response.

Question: Do Dead Cops reveal their sanity?

That would massively bias things against the scum.

correct. sanity is not revealed on death. However, it is frequently easy to deduce it on day 2 (assuming all 4 reveal results and are truthful) - and if you can even figure out one cops sanity (one of the 2 dead cops usually) it becomes a lot easier to figure out the rest and then figure out the scum (i.e. one that is lying about his results).

according to the mafia wiki this game heavily favors town, but we'll see how that turns out, I guess...

After reading that wiki, I was wondering if adding another player to be 'Random Cop' would help.

As far as I can see from the rules. every cop is allowed to scan himself. That would give them quite a good hint about their own sanity.

Yes...at the cost of no useful information for the rest of the village. Remember 2 out of 4 villagers will be dead before you get a second scan result, as well, unless you straight up win day 1, so there's a decent chance your sanity info doesn't help.
