So you didn't practice your french in France then? lol
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

well france is an exception, they are rather snooty about their language. I don't know what we're gonna do when we meet that team, I don't think we have any french speakers.
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

I speak French, but haven't written in while. I can do it if need be.

Would it offend you if someone sent you a message in English? That's silly. Just send them a message in spanish that says "we weren't exactly clear what your message meant, can you resend it in spanish?"

You shouldnt. Let merovich or rego respond. You should stick to diplo with the teams that can speak intelligently in English :P.

just something along the lines of "CFC has been peaceful to us too. Perhaps it will be easier to get your message across in Spanish? I will be the new diplomat with your team since I can speak it fluently" <--- say that in Spanish

I don't see how they would be insulted by that - I would think they would be overjoyed not to have to use babelfish to talk to us.

  1. Keep it simple.
  2. Do not make assumptions.
  3. Do not make fun of other teams unless you want to make an enemy.

Did I not follow these?

Too many other people pushing in other directions.

So what other assumptions were you referring to, then, if not that?

This team is like a muscle car. Powerful on the track, but we don't idle well.

Assumptions on intent on the other team. If in doubt, ask.

As for communicating with the Spanish in Spanish, I very much doubt it will be seen as offensive, though it never hurts to ask first (since we had already started talking in English).

Goals:
1) Longer NAP that extends past our German conflict. I'm thinking something similar to CFC in length is best, maybe T170 or T180 or so. Long enough that we could take a chunk out of the German team. Obviously this would include the usual requirements with espionage and all. Culture bombing too obviously.
2) Communicate that Open Borders are not a huge priority with us. We have them with enough people that we don't need their routes. However, we're willing to sign them straight-up with scouting allowed. We're not going to pay for them, though.
3) Try to convince them not to settle a city right in our faces. However, we don't really have much leverage here or reason to be able to tell them not to do is, so I'm not sure how much I can really push this one.

We have a ton of leverage here.

1) We have fairly high power, and theirs is fairly low.
2) We have insanely high pop and have shown competence with the whip. Their pop is very low.
3) They can see us tech construction. And our tech rate is great.
4) We claim to have long NAPs with all other neighbors.
5) They don't know this yet but we're expecting to have ivory shortly.
6) We've probably come across as erratically predisposed to treat them as an enemy.

We could definitely ruin their game, secure our border, and still be in the best position in the game. They are at our mercy. In addition,

7) We can offer them OB.
8) We can offer them resources.
9) We can offer them a secure border. (Yes, IMO the deal we need so much leverage to get through is good for them too.)
