Are you talking about player previews? Sorry to let you down, I don't think I did anything for player previews this time around. I think I've just about run out of silly gimmicks.

You mean to tell me that the whole reason why I played this game was a lie from the beggining? How cruel are you?

Well, my thread sucks, much like my play. My game ended as soon as Pindicator razed my 4th city (a quick glance in pindicator's thread makes me answer NH - I don't know why I planted Mom where it was. Probably because I had Stonehenge and the corn would come into play soon enough). I really kicked myself, because I had a damn warrior to place in that city, but I let him fortified somewhere else due to stupidity/not enough attention. I'm not sure if I could have contested the game without the raze, but I knew it was already lost after it happened. It was my first pwoerful settled city, since the third and second cities where auxiliary wonder builders.
Live and learn, I guess. What I've learned is:
1. I need a ded-lurker to keep my focus.
2. I need to think more about my defenses, even in naturally defensible maps.
3. I need to make plans. I don't like playing with long micro plans (I'm probably not even capable of doing them), but I should always have a long term plan and long term objectives. I see myself constantly playing the turns as they come, so nothing even happens. That's a big problem...
In other words, I miss Mist. He was a perfect match to me as a Civ team. If only I hah had a bit more time to play the turns in PBEM 38 when we were near the war, we could have won that game. This game proved that I can't fly solo yet.
Maybe I'll play another PB one day, but for now, this is my Civ 4 Swan Song. I'm not really proud of it, but I think I can use some of these lessons even in other aspects of my life.
Thanks everyone for the game.
Grats Noble and Pindi for the win!

I got a little behind in my turn by turn updates ... I will cycle back and put them in - there is some good stuff still to be reported.
That said, I have 3 questions for the other players ...
- Rego grew a city from 2 to 3 to 4 in 2 turns - how?
- Scooter attacked and killed my empty galley - for why?
- Why is Stupendous spending all of his EPs against me?
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

No need to go all Gasparesque with the emo Ichabod...
I don't really make intricate micro plans after the initial say 30 turns of the game either, unless it is for a specific wonder. I like to have a short term plan for each city and its associated workers, and a general idea of how to shift workers around. And then a bigger picture plan in terms of what key tech(s) to aim for next, and how to deviate from that plan should certain game events happen.

What he's saying is I'm the micro-manager.
I think we planned through building MoM this game and then did general plans after that.

I actually remembered about Gaspar when writing that. It worked for him, right? He won the game after his retirement.
Who knows, I'm just not in the mood right now for anotehr BTS PBEM. The definite part is because I find PB casual games and FFH PBEMs to be more fun to play.
And I'm in no way saying that I lost to a micro plan or something like that. First of all, there's nothing wrong with it and I already tried to do it, but I lack the management skills and a skill to evaluate which position is better (so I can't do good sandboxes). And in this game, I think it came down to better use of the map and general better choices from other players. Just look at how my naval presence was ridiculous during all the game (despite early MC), I never exploited triremes, I lost the powerful colossus, I used cottages despite lack of rivers/financial and having pyramids/representation, I had the fewer number of island cities, I never built Moai in a heavy water game considering I was IND. These are all enormous mistakes...
Answering Ruff, my EP was directed to you because: 1. I often forgot about it. 2. I valued seeing one player's research better than all players graphs. Overall stupidity, I'd say.

Agreed good game and I again apologize that my RL situation kind of forced us into it (even though I do think the outcome was pretty much set)
I will read the threads over the next few days. As for Ruff's comment - I do remember growing the city from 2 to 3 to 4 (vaguely). I'm pretty sure the details are in my thread but it was pretty much what you'd expect - basically an early granary with lots of food / food overflow
Scooter's razing of my island city definitely set me back but I don't think it was decisive. Colossus + FIN + MoM / GA coast is just really uber. Ichabod - were you going for Colossus at all? I figured with the Oracle->MC move you had it locked up

I was hoping everyone would think the same!
To be fair, there was a period of time where I compeltely mailed in the turns, especially after my city was razed. I stopped planning altogether. So I ended up missing the Colossus. It's hard to understand how, since I was the first to MC, was IND and had copper. To be fair, I can't quite remember the timings.
That's another problem of a badly reported game, you don't even remember why you did what you did.

I did detail it in post 48 of my thread if you find it

And am I correct in remembering that Scooter was the only one that could settle on a plains hill and still get the fish first ring - was that intentional?
