The timer plays much longerthen it actually is because of the way it handles connections - so 36 hour or so would work.
I don't think that's an important rule - if I were you id focus on getting a definite 8-12 player list.

Have heard about the timer stuff being a bit longer than actual time so will figure out the calcs if that's something that folks want (ie 24h turn limit, 48h turn timer)
I'm not too obsessed about getting players to commit right now as this is all conjecture until it's closer to happening

(possibly informative aside: I have a week or so of leave coming up in a couple of weeks and no partickeler plans, so plan to put a pitboss environment in (a couple of VMs including an SMTP smarthost for googs forwarding might do it), test, and... *cough* get the balls up to ask for the advice necessary to have it run smoothly. A good implementation pretty obviously has some clever workarounds that have been developed with serious experience. Thus the timeframe. And yay leave with no plans!)

Hi, I'd be interested in this game!
I'm definitely very green having never played a PB game, but have played a ton of single player Civ 4, some Lan games with friends, and I've been lurking this site for many years. You can definitely count on me to stay committed to the end.
Preference for no tech trading, weak preference for AI diplo, fine with RBMod or without.

Awesome WilliamLP, nice to meet yer too.
Wondering what do you think about no tech trading by rule but on in settings for the diplo screen availability? I think if TT is completely off you can't deduce what techs others have without some heavy power/score/etc demo tracking, but on the other hand not knowing easily is good too imo.
Heheh, I used to be in a band called LongPig (LP) and our drummer's name was Will.

You can still use the F4 screen post-Alphabet to deduce techs even when TT is off, as Noble already pointed out:

Ok cool, I did hear Noble but wasn't sure whether the response included TT on or off. I had thought with TT off I'd only ever seen 'Tech Trading Not Allowed' messages in the screen you'd usually see 'can research' etc. Or am I barking up a wrong screen?
Edit: Alternatively, that is, aside from just being flat out wrong

IIRC we had 18 people who played with their own (different) interpretation of that rule

My 2 pence: Play a game without TT or diplomacy. If this is a persons first PB game, you are going to have problems understanding pretty much any double move rule or understanding when to play before and after other players, so need to keep that in mind for whatever you choose. I don't think RB mod would be good either if this were a "Greens" game, that would be a lot of extra stuff to think about. As to a map script...I'd say if an experienced map maker volunteered leave it to them.

With TT off, the "Tech Trading Not Allowed" message still disappears at Alphabet. The techs show up in the "Can't Trade" column instead. You probably just never thought to check F4 later in a NTT game to see that.
