I didn't even consider the fishing start for a SH attempt. Like you said, too much tech, too little time. Definetely move to PH if the goal is SH (which I think is a very good goal, especially if it's a 1-turn build, no risk of getting screwed by someone who really hinders expansion to get SH).

Capital will be moved anyhow as none of the potential settling places are good for a bureaucracy-oxford-commerce-capital and that's what we want with FIN I'd say. And we will definitely be able to settle another city for the Fish.

Well, the plan is moving the palace later in the game, since this place sucks as a financial capital. So, we are valuing development speed higher than late game potential of the spot (which is arguable too, in this case, since ocean sucks). "One of the coast sucks" is one of the old aphorisms of civ play that doesn't hold much ground when analysed properly (of course, given the right circumnstances, it can be pretty bad too). Securing Stonehenge, for example, is worth way more than having the possibility of working all BFC tiles later on the game.

well you're still giving up a 3/2 lake tile, meaning the corn could very well be your only food source - with lots of plains

edit: ok, plus the flood plains

I checked for food-surplus. With Fish it is +11 (Fish, Corn, Lake) with LH. With PH it is +9 (Corn, Farmed FP, Farmed Grassland) but no need to invest into LH. So I don't think that the growth should really be a problem. Even less if we indeed get SH, because in that case we wouldn't get the Fish before T50 anyway.

I'll move the settler onto the PH this turn I think. Theoretically we could delay settling by a turn and move 1SW first to uncover the grassland, but I don't think that has much sense (everything I uncover will be in BFC anyhow).

well thats not equal. you farming two tiles you would otherwise cottage if you had more food tongue.

well hopefully you get another grain or something in the south.

True. I don't invest 90 hammers into workboat and LH on the other hand, which is basically another settler. wink

Btw: I tried the PH-approach yesterday with different micro. Yielded 3 Workers, 3 Warriors, 1 Granary, 1 Settler. Used up 5 forests instead of 3. Probably the one I will try to build upon as it is better by a worker than all the other approaches so far.

I wouldn't be confident of food down south. I think Krill added the corn, which he wouldn't have done if we had more food.

well SIP probably means the stone/ivory city doesnt have any food either, which would be worse, I guess (unless there's fish off the coast west). so you might as well move.
